Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70297077 It wont be by surprise. Most likely couple of 3-4 mags in the area this quake will occur hours or a day before. Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated I think that it's really hard to prepare to be off the grid for even let's say 2 months without a lot of money to do so. So then it's like... Well start somewhere. Water. What, a gallon a day? For each person? There are 3 in my household. That's 180 gallons of water. For 2 months.
Okay stop. I already gave up. We're just doomed if something happens.
Quoting: cgip They say one gallon. That is only if you are working hard. 1 gallon is for cooking, hygiene and drinking. Not just drinking. You do need a way to gather more water. Rain water off your roof and filtered is one thought. You don't need a lot of money. Basic foods. Solar oven. Water filter, there are cheap ones you can get for each person or even a sand filter. check my prep thread for cheap ideas. Believe me, we are very tight on money and can't afford those expensive freeze-dried meals that taste like crap most of the time. Thread: Being Prepared - Updated Basic Food List On Page One Quoting: WhiteAngel I love it, thank you. I'll take all the advice I can get! Quoting: cgip Most people think you have to be well off to prepare. That is crap. You can prepare with beans, rice, a few spices, pancake mix that only needs water, a few cans of shortening (lasts the longest), salt, sugar. The list goes on but for a bug-out-bag, think about only putting 3 days of food, a change of clothes, extra socks and GOOD walking shoes. Several lighters and or matches in a sealed baggie. I vacuum packed mine. A tarp, a sleeping bag that has been put in one of those space saver bags that you vacuum all the air out to make everything as small as possible. The bag needs to be checked once every 6 months to renew the food, water and any meds you might have in there. You need a good map of your area, usually a recreational map is best and once again, in a sealed baggie along with copies of your DL, birth certificate, car and medical insurance, house info and a few family photos. Oh and money. Real money not plastic. |
