I've been wrong before, but I sense it. Somewhere on the West Coast of the US or OFF the coast I feel will get a 4-6 mag earthquake within next couple days. Lets say by Thursday. Next 72 hours. hiding A possibility but I sense something.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70297077

It wont be by surprise. Most likely couple of 3-4 mags in the area this quake will occur hours or a day before.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 70297077

We get 3's and 4's pretty often along the west coast of North America.

Me? I'm thinking a 6-7
 Quoting: WhiteAngel

Yeah definitely a 6+

I think that it's really hard to prepare to be off the grid for even let's say 2 months without a lot of money to do so. So then it's like... Well start somewhere. Water. What, a gallon a day? For each person? There are 3 in my household. That's 180 gallons of water. For 2 months.

Okay stop. I already gave up. We're just doomed if something happens.
 Quoting: cgip

They say one gallon. That is only if you are working hard. 1 gallon is for cooking, hygiene and drinking. Not just drinking. You do need a way to gather more water. Rain water off your roof and filtered is one thought. You don't need a lot of money. Basic foods. Solar oven. Water filter, there are cheap ones you can get for each person or even a sand filter. check my prep thread for cheap ideas. Believe me, we are very tight on money and can't afford those expensive freeze-dried meals that taste like crap most of the time.

I love it, thank you. I'll take all the advice I can get!

hf
 Quoting: cgip

Most people think you have to be well off to prepare. That is crap. You can prepare with beans, rice, a few spices, pancake mix that only needs water, a few cans of shortening (lasts the longest), salt, sugar. The list goes on but for a bug-out-bag, think about only putting 3 days of food, a change of clothes, extra socks and GOOD walking shoes. Several lighters and or matches in a sealed baggie. I vacuum packed mine. A tarp, a sleeping bag that has been put in one of those space saver bags that you vacuum all the air out to make everything as small as possible.

The bag needs to be checked once every 6 months to renew the food, water and any meds you might have in there. You need a good map of your area, usually a recreational map is best and once again, in a sealed baggie along with copies of your DL, birth certificate, car and medical insurance, house info and a few family photos. Oh and money. Real money not plastic.

For those in quake zones - in your supplies you need Crazy glue to seal wounds from glass. Everyone needs it but you can use it to seal wounds. Iodine burns like a SOB but it will clean the wound and a few drops in your water will make it safe to drink.

I love watching survival shows like Naked and Afraid. One of the number one items I have noticed they never have, a pot to boil water in. Get a small campfire safe pot!

Learn to make a fire. Fire is life. Fire is safety. Fire is comfort. Learn many ways to make a fire until you are sick of making fires. I taught my kiddos to make fires using a 9 volt battery and a SOS pad and or steel wool. They thought that was the coolest thing ever and made lots of fires doing it. Learn to make that fire with one match or one flick of your Bic. One time only. Watch videos on how to make fire. Fire is life.

Hi guys and gals

hf

I'll add this FWIW- I posted it on a thread earlier.

I'm about 20 miles north of Seattle, and just came to a realization while reading this thread.

The last 2 days, while the kids were gone and my husband and I were on the couch, we've heard a few abnormal (for our house) sounds, like someone was at the door, or something was shifting (?) downstairs.... just abnormal cracks, creaks, and movement. Little, but enough to catch both of our attention and have us going, "WTF was that?".

Yikes, huh?
