Happy Thanksgiving everyone!!!!!!!!

Hugs to you CS. Hope you get some turkey while in that recliner today!
 Quoting: KickinIt

Hiya KickinIt! We are having our favorite meals from Sizzler. Thanksgiving has sparked a new tradition for us - my mom doesn't really like Turkey and for the past few year we grab out for Thanksgiving. We don't have much other family anymore since grandma and grandpa died several years ago, so to save her the work of cleaning dishes and cooking on top of 5 animals to take care of (me in that list this year, otherwise it's 4), we go out for Thanksgiving. My dad will be coming over and we'll have a nice small family get-together.

So we'll be pigging out on steak, all you can eat shrimp, and everything else under the sun for Thanksgiving, all while she gets to NOT have to do dishes after Thanksgiving dinner. Or cook.

She is so over having to cook and clean, even with help from me.
 Quoting: CuriousSeeker

Steak and shrimp sounds awesome! I can understand your mom not wanting to cook. Thanksgiving takes a lot of work and time. Enjoy it!
 Quoting: KickinIt

Every year, a teeny tiny spark happens inside me. NO MORE COOKING THESE CRAZY BIG MEALS. It is still only a tiny thought but I can understand that as one gets older, the pure joy of making that big meal diminishes greatly.

I remember the older generation bah humbugging Christmas and Thanksgiving and not understanding it. That tiny spark is growing and I now "get it". It's all about "Been there, done that."

You'll be with family today too?
 Quoting: Simple27

I have no family here, so no. My bro and sis live far away and we haven't done thanksgiving together in years. My dad died long ago and the year my mom died my best friend said "let's do thanksgiving together". Her parents had both died in the previous few years and although she has siblings nearby, they all do Xmas together and everyone else does other stuff (w/in laws, etc.) for thanksgiving. So, that first year we each took charge of certain dishes, and then both worked on the turkey together. We've been doing it for 10 years now! There have been years it was just the 2 of us, and other years friends who didn't have other plans came over. A couple times one of her brothers came. Sometimes her boyfriend is there. Might just be the two of us this year, at least for food. Lots of wine is consumed. We pretty much stand around, cook, yap and drink wine all day. I actually love our tradition and have grown to love thanksgiving as a result.
 Quoting: KickinIt

That sounds like a great tradition! Have a fantastic day, Kickin. hugs

Light a candle for your momma - just a focus for you to think about your love for her and it will help fill the hole inside your heart this holiday season.

You know, as a kid we always had thanksgiving of course. But it varied what we did for different reasons. And it's not like it was ever a bad time, but we really didn't have a set tradition like we did at Xmas, so Thanksgiving was just another day in a way. That's why it was never really a holiday I got overly excited about, other than the good food. But now I love it! My friend already texted me - she's trying out crock pot mashed potatoes this year since so much has to go in the oven, and thought they were cooking the last 45 minutes and just realized it was never plugged in! First faux pax, and she's not even drinking yet (I think, I'm not there yet)!
