In a surprising manner, 250 years emerges as the average length of national greatness. This average has not varied for 3,000years. The stages of the rise and fall of great nations seem to be: The Age of Pioneers , The Age of Conquests ,The Age of Commerce ,The Age of Affluence ,The Age of Intellect ,The Age of Decadence. Decadence is marked by: Defensiveness, Pessimism, Materialism,Frivolity An influx of foreigners The Welfare State A weakening of religion. Decadence is due to: Too long a period of wealth and power, Selfishness Love of money ,The loss of a sense of duty. The life histories of great states are amazingly similar, and are due to internal factors. Their falls are diverse, because they are largely the result of external causes. - Sir John Glubb The Fate of Empires We are at the end of the Age of Decadence heading into COLLAPSE |

We have a set of red silk embroidered table coverings that we bought in Germany to cover every single table, end table, coffee table, and sideboard. Our decorations stay up until the Feast of the Epiphany. Its a Russian Orthodox thing.
You know what that means? No dusting for almost two months! YAY! Traditions are wonderful!

I just love decorations ! Quoting: Earth420 We've been amassing decorations from all the countries we've lived in and states over the last 43 year of our marriage. When we first got married we were very poor and bought a cardboard angel to top our first Christmas tree. It still tops the tree in the living room today although it looks like its been through the wars. One arm went missing in Italy so I made her another arm and sewed her a dress. Some people go Oooh and ahhh over our decorations until they see the angel then look confused. So of course we have to tell the story of how she got there. We both go right to the feels when we see her. |
