Very large quake warning

Based on extensive research on 7.8+ quakes, I'm confident that extreme northern and/or southern latitude 4+ quakes precede them by no more than 72hours.

We already had the 4.6 Pacific-Antarctic ridge today earlier, the latitude was 65 South. That is fairly rare in itself!

If we see an extreme northern event today or tomorrow, that is a telltale sign of a very major quake about to hit.

Any quake that hits 65N -> 80+N latitudes is really dangerous precursor.

Typical locations to watch out for: Laptev Sea, Svalbard, Zevernaya Zemlya, Northern Alaska, Greenland, Jan Mayen Islands, Sakha&Siberia(Russia), Franz Josef Land

Huge hole in the ocean floor near Australia could cause catastrophic earthquakes and tsunamis

A TEAR in the sea floor seven kilometres deep just north of Australia could cause disastrous earthquakes and tsunamis. The tear in the Earth’s crust is located in the Banda Sea and measures about 60,000 sq km, roughly the size of Tasmania. Geologists have now discovered the tear is one of the biggest faults on the planet and is running through the Ring of Fire, an area in the Pacific Ocean where a huge number of earthquakes and volcanic eruptions occur. According to the United States Geological Survey, 90 per cent of the world’s earthquakes and 81 per cent of the world’s worst earthquakes occur along the Ring of Fire. The Ring extends from New Zealand, around the top of Australia and past Indonesia. It curls around past Japan and down the West Coast of the United States before ending at the bottom of South America.

Solar Update / Coronal Holes

Good evening. Solar activity continues at very low levels. The visible disk is blank once again as small region 2618 faded away.

Perhaps some much needed excitement in the near future as enhanced geomagnetic activity, possible reaching minor storm levels will be possible after December 19th when reoccurrant coronal holes # 45/47 become geoeffective. More updates in the days ahead. Stay tuned to SolarHam.com for the most up to date information. Image below courtesy of SDO/AIA.

A BIG CORONAL HOLE TURNS TOWARD EARTH: For the third month in a row, a large hole in the sun's atmosphere is turning toward Earth. NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory photographed the yawning structure on Dec. 16th: [link to spaceweather.com]

This is the same coronal hole that lashed Earth's magnetosphere with solar wind on Oct. 25-28 and again on Nov. 23-26. It is spinning around with the sun, strobing Earth lighthouse-style every ~27 days. The last two times we experienced its solar wind, intermittant G1-class geomagnetic storms and bright auroras were observed in the Arctic. A repeat performance is likely when the solar wind returns on Dec. 20-22.
