Well yes and no :), yes in a sense this would fit the precursor quake (predicted 6.7-7.4 48 hours from 1/8/2017) and it did now happen.

No because we are talking above 8 if these polar quakes are any indication. This very deep Celebes Sea quake thus raised eyebrows even more (if possible :D )

I figured this had already been answered by our house expert wink

My gut, with all this activity today and other moderate deep ones, says that a bigger one is coming. And without all the scientific backup that Finland provides, I will add that I'm worried about both Japan and South America being the target. Chile, in particular.

New candidate for 'missing element' in Earth's core

Japanese scientists believe they have established the identity of a "missing element" within the Earth's core.
They have been searching for the element for decades, believing it makes up a significant proportion of our planet's centre, after iron and nickel. Now by recreating the high temperatures and pressures found in the deep interior, experiments suggest the most likely candidate is silicon.

I don't think anyone has posted this yet. Dutch's latest video, made early today after the big one in the Philippines.

From the text about the video:

"The larger earthquakes could go a full 1-2 magnitudes LARGER than the deep M7.3 - thus making the potential for a very large earthquake (M8.3 to M9.3) much greater than "normal".

The larger earthquakes, if they occur, should strike to the West of the Deep earthquake with additional pressure fanning out across the area to the North and slightly East as far as Papua New Guinea.

This is the largest deep earthquake we've seen in years, which means the whole Pacific plate is about to be displaced (is being displaced). Areas such as the West coast of the United States (Eureka to Cleft Segment) should be on heightened alert for the potential for up to M6.8 to M7.0 .

Midwest USA should be on watch after California - watch for midrange M5.0 or swarms = to this. Could be swarms of 3's mixed with a few midrange M4.0 earthquakes, but more likely something larger.

This week is going to be a week of displacement around the planet.. all the way to Europe and the Mid-Atlantic Ridge.

Italy, South Europe, Mediterranean -- you only have 3-4 days at the most before you'll start seeing an influx of new seismic pressure which will increase magnitudes by up to 3X. This means up to a 1,000% power increase from the M3.0's we've been seeing. The potential for M6.0 activity in Greece is large. The potential for M5.0 activity in Central Italy at the NEW swarm location which popped up yesterday (Jan 9 2016)."

[link to www.bbc.com]
 Quoting: Spirit Warrior ~8~

Interesting read! From link...

The innermost part of Earth is thought to be a solid ball with a radius of about 1,200km (745 miles).

It is far too deep to investigate directly, so instead scientists study how seismic waves pass through this region to tell them something of its make-up.

It is mainly composed of iron, which makes up an estimated 85% of its weight, and nickel, which accounts for about 10% of the core.

To investigate the unaccounted for 5% of the core, Eiji Ohtani and his team created alloys of iron and nickel and mixed them with silicon.

They then subjected them to the immense pressures and temperatures that exist in the inner core.

They discovered that this mixture matched what was seen in the Earth's interior with seismic data.

Prof Ohtani said more work was needed to confirm the presence of silicon and that it did not rule out the presence of other elements.

Interesting. I will definitely chime in if I hear anything. That's very concerning.

I've also had occasional ear ringing for short stints the past few days. I can't say I've been able to correlate that with any EQ activity in the past though. And this is also probably nothing but considering how other living things will respond strangely prior to EQs, I have killed probably 10 fruit flies in my house in the past 3-4 days. Sometimes in the summer I will get those buggers from having my window open, etc., but in January? Up until today it's been really cold here, too. My place is clean (even poured bleach down the drains thinking there might be gunk in there) and I don't have anything out ripening or otherwise that would attract them. It's very odd. I've never seen a fruit fly inside my house in the dead of winter. Anyone?
