Ummm....I don't like the looks of this at all. Look at that radar model for later this evening on the right! That looks very bad. They were talking about straight line winds with this storm. They weren't kidding. [ link to www.facebook.com (secure)] Edit to add: "However, after 3 p.m., storms will blossom rapidly over western Missouri and quickly grow into an expansive complex of fast moving, violent wind producing storms, what we call a “DERECHO.” Winds within this complex could exceed 70 mph and will be capable of extensive wind damage similar to that of a tornado. In addition, some very large hail–golf ball to baseball-sized–will be possible in the strongest cells. And finally, there will also be a risk of a couple of short-lived tornadoes near the leading edge of the fast moving storm complex. Current thinking is that storms will sweep across the viewing area sometime between 5 p.m. and 10 p.m. Saturday. They will last about 30 to 60 minutes in any one location, with most severe portion of the storms lasting for 10-15 minutes." [ link to fox2now.com] Quoting: KickinIt Stay safe my friend! The last Derecho that blew across my area of Indiana broke in half an iron pole that held up a carriage light in our front yard. The carriage light which of course had all its glass blown out was hanging by the electrical lines and swinging in the wind. Stay sheltered because if its bad it seems now you will also have flying baby snakes in the air. Gonna say a protection prayer for you and hope all will be well. |

People were without power for over a week. I hope to hell this storm isn't like that one. Also hope there's no flying snakes (snakenado). This may sound shallow, but I'm worried about my car! I don't have a garage and I'm thinking of skipping my friends' gathering down the street tonight, and driving nearby to the community college where I can park my car in a garage and wait it out. Is that ridiculous? It's a fairly new structure, so it actually might be a safe place to be. Lowest level, of course. |
