Solar Eclipse 2017: US National Parks Expecting Gridlock on "Busiest Day in History"

The state of Wyoming is accustomed to visitors: it is home to the vast majority of Yellowstone National Park, the first in the world; Grand Tetons National Park; and ski resorts such as Jackson Hole.

But as Monday’s total solar eclipse approaches, the National Park Service says: “August 21 is anticipated to be the busiest day in the history of the park”.

Local news reference to traffic. They drove from Denver to Ft Collins - about an hour drive typically. Today it took them 1 hour and 45 minutes.

They are putting emergency porta-potties up and down I-25, extra at rest stops as well as anywhere there is a turn out - "for those times you just gotta go", his words, not mine, lol

The sensors on I-25 at the border between CO and WY, 30,000 vehicles above normal on a holiday weekend, just since 5pm yesterday. LOL

Wow, good update WA! I actually did some searching for info on traffic issues around here (when I say that, I mean within a 150 mile radius of here, not STL proper). I couldn't find anything about traffic issues yet. I think the worst around here will be early on Monday, and late afternoon/evening after the eclipse ends. I think all the locals on the fringe of the totality path heading south/southwest of STL on Monday to get a better vantage point will create some havoc.

You betcha. And protection

Sanity is DVD player and movies for son - computer and cell phones for daughter.

Because cell towers are not used to handling heavy traffic in WY (population for the whole state is only half a million), she also downloaded books to read. We aren't counting on the portable cell towers that they say they are setting up along the I-25 corridor.

It's extremely amusing if someone from the outside of the US understands it quite well, no need to apologize :)

by the way, (breaking) news has frozen since a while, they're all rotating news from the day... besides fillers, no news at all, it's almost scary
edit: never mind, news is rolling again on internet, false alarm :p

cheers

OH boy, that's what the d layer absorption was on simple's link above. This week and especially Monday should be interesting. If a giant X ripped off tonight from 2671, it could theoretically hit earth on Monday, or hit the moon as its eclipsing the sun. Cme's blow dust up on the Mona if they hit at the right place.
