Well, you certainly won't see me doing this. (Oh, and there's these little scorpions here too...quite a shock for a former Baltimoran!)

Nobody said anything about giant spiders before I moved here...until I moved here. The locals confirmed that yes, you will see tarantulas crossing the roads. Just great. As much as that creeps me out to the uttermost limit, I'll still try to get some live pics to share. Tis' the season for creepy things, right? God help me....

Tarantula gets a bad rap in Ozarks
7/23/15

Moving from falsehoods to facts brings us to the large fuzzy spiders found in this area. In the Ozarks, tarantulas typically inhabit dry, rocky glades and, in late summer and early fall, can often be seen crossing roads. This tarantula “wandering” occurs because it’s their mating season and males are actively seeking females.

I don't go seeking them out, but I am not afraid of them. If I find a spider in the house, it gets captured and put outside unless it's a brown recluse or black widow, because fuck those guys.

I actually agree with you. Rather see a spider than one of those freaks of nature!

I had never seen one before. Was up on the police departments roof (just 4 stories up) and was leaning against a brick wall. Caught something out of the corner of my eye and there was my first encounter with a humongous ROACH!!! I have always prided myself in being tuff girl - not a girlie girl - but let me tell you - I screamed like a little girl and ran down the stairs and told my story. The Texans all laughed at me.
