In 1972 when my grandfather died, the ranch appraised for $750,000, and the tax was $500,000 federal and $50,000 state. When I took over the ranch from my evil step father in 1982, we were 1.8 million in debt. Between 1982 and 1998, I paid 3.2 million in interest, and eventually paid off the debt, by putting a conservation easement on the ranch. It's been a hell of a ride. We'll avoid those taxes this time, as my mother is 86. Hoo-rah! I should add that our 150th year is 2018.

Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated Well I'm pissed. Went to the P.O. first thing this morning to ship my xmas stuff to my siblings. Was there waiting with my boxes when they opened the doors. Made a point to go to a specific P.O. that is sort of a "hub" around here - all packages from my area go through this P.O. coming or going. I thought by going there I'd save it a stop and ensure it got out of STL quicker. Well, they said my brother's box, which is going to the far west coast, will get there saturday. My sister's box, which is going to the southwest, they said won't be delivered until Tuesday the 26th! WTF, I'm sending these priority mail, which is supposed to be 3 days, sometimes 4 depending on zip code. I mailed them at 9am so they should see movement by mid day. If you count today, Saturday delivery would be 4 days. Even the postal worker thought it was odd and couldn't explain it. All the signage at the P.O. tells you the last day you can mail stuff to get it there by Xmas, and for priority mail it says by 7pm today. I asked about sending it priority express and they told me it would cost $67! I said no thanks, and would take my chances. Send my Xmas boxes some good juju so they get there by Saturday!
Quoting: KickinIt Good juju sent!! Quoting: Isis One Thanks Isis, hoping for the best! |

Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated I think KickinIt was correct about the lack of 6+ in Japan, when we cross that threshold that's the time to worry. Haven't seen that yet.
One analogy to draw would be the events in 2016-04-14 when Kyushu had 6.0 and 6.1, coinciding with many 5+.
Well, it culminated with a 7.0 a day later and a 7.8 in Ecuador two days later.
Also what is striking, both S0 and Dutch have come to the realisation there is multiple 7+ coming. Basically three different methods all pointing to the same outcome. (Migration, history, whatever S0 is using)
-Finland
Quoting: Anonymous Coward 73392093 This is a very good point that various methods are all coming to the same conclusion. |

Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Re: Earthquake Thread ~ Always Updated Happy solstice everyone! I actually have a solstice party to go to tonight. I'm really not in the mood, only because I had a rough day today at work after a super shitty night of sleep last night. I'm exhausted! But at least they are starting early at 6, so I'm going for an hour or so to deliver them some cookies, have a beer, and hopefully take part in some solstice rituals to rid my life of any negativity!
Fun fact: At one summer solstice party years ago, we did the ritual and all wrote down the negative things we wanted to eliminate from our lives (for summer, you wrap that paper with various herbs, tie it up in a little packet or sorts, then bury it. For winter, you burn the list in a bonfire). Well, the first thing I wrote down was to rid my life of dysfunctional work environments. Ended up losing my job 2 weeks later! Lesson learned: be very specific in how you word things for these kind of situations :) |
