POLAR CROWN CORONAL HOLE: A large hole in the sun's atmosphere has formed around the sun's north pole. This is called a "polar crown coronal hole," and it is spewing solar wind into space. This image, based on data from NASA's Solar Dynamics Observatory, shows where the sun's magnetic field has opened up, allowing the gaseous material to escape: [link to spaceweather.com]

Although this hole is not directly facing Earth, forecasters believe that some of the emerging solar wind could spill down and brush against our planet's magnetic field on Feb. 4th and 5th. Minor geomagnetic storms and Arctic auroras are possible when the solar wind arrives later this weekend.

Yummy!! That's almost exactly what I'll be having for dinner. Roasted chicken, potatoes, carrots, onions and celery.

Snack for the Super Bowl will be homemade baked soft pretzels with cheese dipping sauce on the side!

And no, I can't take credit for the cooking of any of these things. tounge

Short overview of earthquake hazards along the West Coast via @TheEconomist. Reality: you are in control of this story - take a few simple steps toward preparedness:

The Pacific north-west is not the only region with a problem. The United States Geological Survey (USGS), a scientific agency of the federal government, says there is a 99.7% chance that California will suffer a quake larger than magnitude 6.7 in the next 30 years.

‘Potentially hazardous’: Colossal asteroid will fly past Earth tonight

An asteroid bigger than the world’s tallest building is set to whizz past the Earth at a speed of 76,000 miles per hour (122,000kph) Sunday night.
The space rock, known by the catchy name of ‘2002 AJ129,’ measures up to 0.75 miles (1.2kms) wide. That’s a sight bigger than the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the tallest building on Earth which stretches around a half a mile into the sky.

Eerie-sounding name aside, there is no immediate cause for alarm. Despite being tagged as “potentially hazardous” by NASA, it is said that the asteroid has zero chance of colliding with us on Earth.

Just don't fool me like last year with that big score behind in the last quarter and than win it in a historic comeback that I didn't see live, because I went to bed.

Shame on me, the most positive guy in the universe, for not believing. Shame on you for testing that belief.

Oh, who the hell am I kidding, go win it already!

Have fun everyone! hf
