More than 6,000 people closest to the volcano were ordered to evacuate. [ link to weather.com (secure)] if such a small volcano can do this imagine what the others can do  Our beautiful rock is going through some increasingly bad times.. Terrible to see this and to look at the videos.Scary. I heard on the news here that they expected hundred of thousands more to be evacuated as well.  Taal Volcano is one of the 16 Decade Volcanoes. [ link to en.wikipedia.org (secure)] They are named Decade Volcanoes because the project was initiated in the 1990s as part of the United Nations-sponsored International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction. A volcano may be designated a Decade Volcano if it exhibits more than one volcanic hazard (people living near the Decade Volcanoes may experience tephra fall, pyroclastic flows, lava flows, lahars, volcanic edifice instability and lava dome collapse); shows recent geological activity; They are named Decade Volcanoes because the project was initiated in the 1990s as part of the United Nations-sponsored International Decade for Natural Disaster Reduction.
