How about some speculation in the meantime?
Using a variety of passages it can show that the judgment of the Nations is a global event and the earth has 10 men that receive kingdoms after one hours with the beast. The beast is only released when the 5th trump begins to unfold and from the start until the end of that reign is a period of 42 months and then the beast is sent to the fiery lake.

If all people are considered to be sinners then that is who would come under judgment and because the figures are given in ratios the math is easier to do. When Revelation was published the population of the Gentile world may have been 6 million. 1/3 are destined to die in the 6th trump and then a further 2/3 are killed as being sinners by Jesus on the day the 7th trump sounds. 666,000,000 would be a number they could understand and play with. Answer to the question the number of men that the mark will affect is the number of men that are alive on the planet at a specific time. In the OT a man had to be 20 before being sent off to war, let's use that as a base for who is counted and since nobody lives as long as Moses (120) that can be the upper end. 222,000 is the number that the horsemen of the 6th trump would kill. The readers of Revelation would not expect the number of Gentiles to be 6.66 billion once the Gospel had reached the 4 corners of the earth and whatever number it actually is that is who will be judged. That doesn't mean those under 20 will remain alive, they will die but enter sleep like Job and everybody else does. The ones that sleep is denied to is specific to the men taking part in war on the day that specific trump sounds. The total number is 2/3 of the ones alive, that number should be 4.44B using the system above. That is is slightly more than the 2.22B that die in the 6th trump.

Who makes up that 1/3 can be debated as to if it is believers or not. The war with the remnant of the woman's seed in Re:12 is only the two witnesses. If 1/3 of the living after Christ's wrath is around for the 1,000 years then some of those were getting protection before that day, most likely a bigger number than it was 3 1/2 years earlier. The Jews don't far very well, the 144,000 are all that will be alive on the day the 7th trump sounds, within 12 hours that number swells to include everybody from the whole House of Israel going back to Abraham. Out in the Nations the 1/2 in Zec:13 are protected Gentiles, the ones that have repented their sins by the time that day arrives. For those that do not they enter the grave so they can appear clean at the Great White Throne event after all fallen angels are sent to the lake, the price of sin for a being of the 2nd birth. The grave is the highest price that a man can pay for sins in the 1st birth.

Back to the 10 men that get kingdoms, they are the 10 toes of Daniel's metal statue and the 10 men in Da:7 are also about them. In Da:11 all the ones involved in war are sinners as both sides serve the same master.

Da:7 does mention the 10 and then 1 of those 10 overpower 3 so that would appear to be the most powerful man on the earth at that time. He would be bowing to Satan when Satan is sitting on a throne on holy ground in Jerusalem. He would go to hell like all the other warriors but angelic beings are being sent to a worse fate, the fiery lake.
