About a year ago, I bought some EMP resistant bags to put my lap top and basic radios in, and quickly realized two things. The stuff I put in EMP bags was stuff I wasn't using anyway. The stuff I was using, I wasn't going to be constantly taking out of protection and putting back. That includes my Ham radio set up which would be one of the best things to have after an EMP. That's the dilemma. I want to be able to use my Ham radio in an emergency, but I don’t want to have to unpack and reassemble it (and recharge the HT) to do that. When an EMP does knock out the grid none of the normal day to day stuff will be protected because you can't EMP proof your whole house. Well you could, but who is going to do that? It would be a huge expense and undertaking. Best to pick key communications devices that don't rely on complicated outside tech to work and just stick to the basics. Good Ham radios are not cheap, but if you want to use one after an EMP you need to get a spare to store in a protected case. Right now that makes me a hypocrite, because I can’t afford spare Ham radios, but it’s something to think about. "God forbid we should ever be 20 years without such a rebellion. The people cannot be all, & always, well informed... If they remain quiet under such misconceptions it is a lethargy, the forerunner of death to the public liberty... Let them take arms... What signify a few lives lost in a century or two? The tree of liberty must be refreshed from time to time with the blood of patriots & tyrants. " - Thomas Jefferson in 1787 |

It looks cool, should work, and will hold just about anything you want to use after an EMP attack. It is a good idea. I was just saying that common use items are not likely to be stored somewhere between uses. For myself, the laptop stays next to me on the couch because it sees daily use and the Ham radio I set up for emergencies is bolted to the desk and wired to a battery and maintenance charger. I wasn’t thinking about EMPs when I set it up. My other Ham is a hand held and if I have it with me when the the sky pops, well, I had it with me and not in a box. If the Lord gives us more time, I hope to set up a rough shelter at my farm and a box like what you built would be a great idea for a bug out location.
