Anonymous Coward User ID: 43755630 United States 11/08/2013 09:56 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If 2 substations are out then there must be a transmission line down. It should be pretty straightforward to fix. Expect the lights to be back on in the 5-8 hour range if that is the case. If you get any more info at all post it here. I work on powerlines. I'm expecting a mass outage just like everyone else here but I want to be very careful with analysis. |

Yet the news and Seattle PUD site says the power is on there. Could be spreading. [link to www.seattle.gov] -Everything's more awesome when you lean into it. |

Thankfully now it's only a couple times a month. We are evidently in an area that isn't important enough to get power up fast either. One time the power went out for 4 days, others a couple blocks away had theirs back on in the first day. At least Seattle isn't too cold (lived there for a few years). |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 43755630 United States 11/08/2013 10:09 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The simplest way to explain it is the higher the wires affected on the pole, the more people will be out. Transmission lines are at the top. They feed power to the substations. If multiple subs are out then it's most likely a transmission line that is the problem. Think of them as a backbone that supports the grid. They run down the middle and supply power to each of the substations they pass. It could be a transmission structure down but with no bad weather in the area it isn't very likely. Not that it can't happen. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 37686313 I predict this will cascade to all of the west coast soon. If it does then it is scripted. There is absolutely no reason it should be widespread. What all of us are prepping for here will happen in an instant. There won't be any warning at all. If it happens, the lights will just go out and there won't be any news of it coming back. That is what I'm expecting anyway |

Wonder what the cause is. Remember that the estimated customers affected is the number of bills they send out, not the people involved. Bascially, each house or business equals one customer affected. |
