I believe now days it's just a generic term for pretty much any groups or individuals who claim to reach "enlightment." I.E. elites/select who've been initiated into esoteric luciferian or similar astrotheistic "knowledge" or mystic doctrines. Aka the "Mystery Schools." I believe they've managed to combine all the wicked, pagan, babylonian, phonecian, egyptian, roman, greek, tibetan, etc.etc., mystic knowledge from the past into one, while at the same time spreading it across several factions such as freemasonry, rosicrucianism (church of illumination,) perversions of judaism and islam and dozens of other societies/churches/brotherhoods. Most of which you will find a few common symbols amongst proving the alliance...Most commonly displayed as one eyed, triangular or diamond shaped, hexagonal, or cuboid, or some form of 666. All roads usually do lead to Rome, which in this case is actually another planet in our solar system believe it or not. ;-p

Ya know, the OP has a point. If the Illuminati is supposed to be so secret, then why is it so promoted? If we know of all their evil plans, then why aren't we silenced? Also, the Illuminati really did exist but as a Gentleman's club that decided to influence the politics of Bulgaria( I think it was), and they were exiled from the country during it's uprising. Most members were just young punks that wanted to be cool and some were even killed :| And that was that. That's not even a big secret. Just google it. Most of the research from the Illuminati is based off of a fictional book series that two authors wrote because they were inspired by the Illuminati leader shortly before the club was exiled. I've seen extensive papers written on these guys... and it's all fake because no one researched the authors who wrote the books.
