The CIA promised the prisoners freedom, safety for their families and millions of dollars from the agency's secret accounts. It was a risky gamble. Officials knew there was a chance that some prisoners might quickly spurn their deal and kill Americans. For the CIA, that was an acceptable risk in a dangerous business. For the American public, which was never told, the program was one of the many secret trade-offs the government made on its behalf. At the same time the government used the risk of terrorism to justify imprisoning people indefinitely, it was releasing dangerous people from prison to work for the CIA. The program was carried out in a secret facility built a few hundred yards from the administrative offices of the prison in Guantanamo Bay, Cuba. The eight small cottages were hidden behind a ridge covered in thick scrub and cactus. [link to www.ynetnews.com] Excellent observation; thread title says it all! Can you imagine the nasty little details/secrets that Israel is aware of? Could get interesting; for past and present US administrations. Texans are arrogant Texans; but you would be too if you were correct all the damn time! |

How has he responded? With more secrecy. Obama has been gradually tweaking his vast government surveillance policies. But he is not disclosing those changes to the public. Has he stopped spying on friendly world leaders? He won’t say. Has he stopped eavesdropping on the United Nations, the World Bank and the International Monetary Fund? He won’t say. Even the report by the group Obama created to review and recommend changes to his surveillance programs has been kept secret. Critics note that this comes after he famously promised the most open administration in history. [link to www.mcclatchydc.com] |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50605923 Governments - enemies of freedom Sounds good. Lets go! I'll listen to all dirty little secrets. I have no illusions. The intelligence agency was then tasked to recruit potential candidates into the program. Of the ‘dozens of prisoners’ evaluated for the special program, only a handful signed agreements to work for American intelligence. "Of course that would be an objective," Emile Nakhleh, a former top CIA analyst who spent time in 2002 assessing detainees but who did not discuss Penny Lane, revealed. "It's the job of intelligence to recruit sources." To qualify for the program, recruits needed good connections with terrorist organizations, notably Al-Qaeda. [link to rt.com] |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 881419 United States 11/26/2013 02:35 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I'm astonished that anybody believes anything that comes out of "by deception we will wage war" Israel. Not only that but why would we need to infiltrate AlCiada? They are ours and they have always been ours, even when they were firing off poison gas rounds in Syria and pretending (along with Israel) that it was the Assad government forces. We even declared Hezbollah to be a terrorist organization because they were ATTACKING AlCiada! This whole subject has to be aimed at people who are dumber than a box of rocks! |

The secret Gitmo facility was known as “Penny Lane,” named after the Beatles song. According to U.S. officials reached by the AP, only “a handful” were turned, out of dozens of prospects.
