As for the lease agreement with Chevron, just ask the people of Colorado what the lease agreements do... Fucking companies come in, fuck the land and resources up, take their profits and leave environmental hazards that are in no way conducive to a hearty, healthy life or existence. Truly a travesty for humanity and all in the name of fucking MORE AND MORE MONEY. Best wishes for the Romanian people who care about their country. FUCK the "authorities" that let in the earth destroyers. They should be forced to live within the oil-gas-stench that fills the air anytime these fucking companies have a chance at the earth's resources. |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 1488672 It's about , so what are you talking about the contamination since they take the gel at the beginning . it is no way that the pressure of the gas will not move the gel out of the deposit . The problem is introducing hydrocarbons into the aquifer. After fracking your well water will be carcinogenic if contaminated with oils. Faucets that will light (methane) are common too. Government is a body largely ungoverned. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 8277144 United States 12/03/2013 08:58 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The message is plain enough, and we have ignored it for too long: the great, centralized economic entities of our time do not come into rural places in order to improve them by "creating jobs." They come to take as much of value as they can take, as cheaply and as quickly as they can take it. They are interested in "job creation" only so long as the jobs can be done more cheaply by humans than by machines. They are not interested in good health--economic or natural or human--of any place on this earth. Wendell Berry |

Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50908504 We want the right to private property and free speech. Is that too much to ask? (Also, we did not know what we were getting into when we joined the EU.) NO..... it's not too much to ask, but none of us have it either. People don't know how to fight back peacefully and effectively. You don't fight back by having confrontations with the power structure. You don't fight back by starting violence. You find peaceful ways to undermine the power structure. |

Let's do something that punishes these people, as they have the decision-making function in the area. They should lose their jobs as soon as possible, to show them that the PEOPLE HAS THE POWER. STOP CRYING and DO SOMETHING. FIRST THING TO DO: PUNISH THE FIRST CORRUPT NEXT TO YOU You need to understand that we cannot change the corrupt local authorities unless we change the whole political class. The local authorities in Pungesti are protected by their bosses in Bucharest. Even the prime minister Victor Ponta congratulated the riot police for abusing those poor villagers who were just defending their lands and their rights, calling them "a bunch of extremists who oppose the welfare of the country". This is war between US (the people) and THEM (the ruling class)! As a small update from Pungesti, the situation is still critical and the atmosphere is almost war-like. The Romanian media (with very few notable exceptions) is not reporting anything, or reporting in a very distorted way. Fortunately a few international newspapers have picked up the story and are helping to spread the news. This weekend, a few hundred activists from all over the country are expected to arrive in Pungesti. We'll see how the situation develops. I will keep you all updated! Here's an article from France 24: AFP - On a frozen field braving police, Romanian villagers hold vigil in a makeshift camp set up to block US energy giant Chevron from exploring for shale gas. On Monday, hundreds of Romanian riot police forcibly removed protesters from the camp clearing the way for Chevron's excavators to reach the site where the company intends to drill its first exploration well in Romania. But some of the villagers from Pungesti, in this impoverished region of North-Eastern Romania, hung on, taking turns to man the camp just adjacent to the Chevron site and despite an imposing police presence. "We have potatoes to eat, an improvised stove. We protest to protect our way of life and our health," one of the local farmers, Alexandru Focsa, 44, told AFP. "The authorities do not want to listen to us but we are determined to go on despite the abuses and the fines handed by the police," he said. Like Focsa, many in this rural region oppose the highly controversial drilling technique used to extract shale gas known as "hydraulic fracturing" or "fracking". (OP) User ID: 43961776 Romania 12/07/2013 08:51 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Update from the village of Pungesti, Romania: Hundreds of protesters have broken into a Chevron site after the US oil giant resumed its search for shale gas in northeast Romania. RT’s Lucy Kafanov reports from the scene, where clashes ensued as riot police started streaming in. Some 400 people gathered on Saturday in the village of Pungesti, according to local media. RT’s Lucy Kafanov reports that the demonstration kicked off quite peacefully with the protesters chanting “Chevron go home.” “The situation then escalated. Some people had run across the road towards the Chevron property, there was a bit of a commotion, and we saw the protesters run into the property; the surrounding perimeter fences were taken down," Kafanov reports. Local media said people were able to tear down fences to 20 acres of land owned by the company. Full article here: [link to rt.com] Many protesters have been arrested. Chevron has announced that it will temporarily suspend its operations in Pungesti as a result of the local opposition. They have also suspended their operations a few weeks ago after the initial protests, but tried to resume them on December 2 with the intervention of large riot police troops. Right now the press is denied access to the camp once again. (OP) User ID: 43961776 Romania 12/15/2013 03:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A few thousand people protested tonight in Bucharest agains the government. Willy Schuster, one of the symbols of the anti-fracking movement in Romania was arrested in Bucharest, during an ongoing protest against the Government's politics concerning shale gas and mining. He suffered serious head injuries! Willy is taken to hospital for stitches after receiving a blow to the head from police. Heavy hearts here. He joined protests in Bucharest after the members of parliament give themselves immunity from prosecution. Riot police blockade streets all over Bucharest to prevent protesters from gathering. Among other laws the corrupt government is pushing through are 1. releasing land ownership to non-citizens which is done nowhere else in the world, and 2. Allowing mining and drilling anywhere. This is all about power and money. Willy Schuster, God bless you for standing firm for justice in your country. You're an example to us all.
