(OP) User ID: 50942233 United States 12/04/2013 04:23 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My brother lost his 9 yr old golden retriever this morning. He took it to the vet at Petsmart last week for vaccinations, he came down something afterwards. They took him back and they said he got kennel cough from another dog at Petsmart clinic. They put him on some meds, saw him Sunday and he seemed fine. Quoting: Term Limits Tis morning he had labored breathing and they took him to my vet down the road, he was dead in 10 minutes. Vet said he had a build-up of fluid in his lungs and near his heart. Apparent heart attack. I buried him today, sad time for all of us. Another young dog. Wow. More than I had expected to see. Give your brother my condolences. Trying to bring GLP together. I'm still collecting flags from posters all over the world. Thread: Official "Flags from around the world" thread. (OP) User ID: 50942233 United States 12/04/2013 04:26 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | So sorry for your loss..... Quoting: Shamar I just lost my sheltie of nearly 15 years this past fall...It's a long story, but even though he was getting old, losing his sight and hearing, he had tons of spunk, until he got hit by a car and got his leg broke, (which was totally my fault). then his spirit just went downhill. I kept praying he would just fall asleep, and kept telling him that would be ok....but he just kept hanging on. Finally, we knew the time was come that we just needed to have him put down. One of the most miserable experience we can go through, imo. Just 1 week and a half ago now, I just adopted a little mini-schnauzer who is 6 years old, blind in one eye, and half blind in the other eye. She is the sweetest thing and it is helpful to put energy into another little creature who needs help. My aunt has a sheltie she adores. They're wonderful dogs. You're very lucky to have had 15 years. I would have given anything for 12 or 13. Give your little gal a kiss on the snout for me. We were forced to put him down within 24 hours. It's been 6 months and my wife literally cries at least once a day over him. I can't blame her. He was one in a million. Extremely smart, loving and young at heart. A handsome devil too. Strangers would jokingly threaten to steal him when they saw him in the backseat of my truck hanging his head out the window in the parking lot. That happened nearly every time I took him into town. We're now expecting our first child next June. I wish Ripster could have been there to meet him/her. |

(OP) User ID: 50942233 United States 12/04/2013 05:27 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My wife and I had to put down our beloved lab/rotti mix, Ripley, 6 months ago. He had an aggressive form of cancer. It showed up back in February when I noticed he had a bloated stomach. We thought it was just a blockage so we took him to the emergency vet. The vet stuck a needle in his abdomen and drew out blood. He had a ruptured spleen and was bleeding internally. The vet surmised that it was cancer polyps that had caused the rupture. My wife literally went into shock. We didn't have kids, he was our baby. After careful consideration, we opted to have the spleen removed and get it tested for cancer. It came back positive. Anonymous Coward User ID: 50486882 United States 12/04/2013 06:36 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I lost my terrier a week before Thanksgiving and for me and my family it is truly heartbreaking. He was 10 and 1/2 when I had to put him down due to colon cancer. Dogs don't usually get colon cancer. I'm having many issues with his death because it seems just wrong. I had the same breed terrier that I had to put down at 19 years old which was sad but understandable. There is something wrong with the air, food and environment these days. Cancer is the number one killer of dogs. I am getting another dog that was born on the same day my terrier passed away. The new dog has an expected life span of 10-12 years (cane corso ). I have two other dogs presently and I want to see if they live to their expected ranges. This world we live in is toxic. I am truly sorry for your loss and I understand that dogs are family members and this is a HUGE loss. |

User ID: 28167778 United States 12/04/2013 06:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I am terribly sorry for your loss.I once had a parakeet called Floyd whom I loved. One day I came home and found him struggling on his back at the floor of his cage in death throes but as he passed he locked eyes with me as if to say "help". I could do nothing. That is why I will not keep pets any longer. It hurts too much when they die. I suspect that the Teflon baking pans caused his death. I was a teenager and my Mom bought these dumb pans to bake with. I very much suspect they caused his demise. Again, I sympathize with you. We can only trust that they go to a better place. Love unto you.Thanks. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 44180929 You may well be right. I love birds too. I hate it that some people buy the junk that comes on the market, without asking if it is safe to heat plastic over and over again - for humans or birds. Anonymous Coward User ID: 33863384 United States 12/04/2013 07:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | My 11 year old Golden "Buddy" died on my lap while we sat on his favorite couch, the comfort of his tennis ball nearby. We sat that way for about 5 hours, he was alert up until about the last hour. I'm an alcoholic, been sober for several years, Buddy got me through that. Paddled out on a surfboard earlier that day and caught some waves, thought I would never be able to experience that joy again, it was so far away, in years and strength. My pal Buddy went that night, would like to think he stayed around until he knew I would be alright. Glad I got to look him in the eye and say thanks, After I told him he was free to go it didn't take much longer. Thanks Buddy |

Vet said there wasn't anything he could do. It didn't seem to bother him too much but, since yesterday he seems as if he may be hurting. I think I need to take him to the vet. He has been with me for 12 years, maybe another day or two. This, I am dreading! My shepherd is 14 years old. It's hard saying good bye Your little guy, wearing the blue bows, you can see the love in his eyes. You did the best you could have done for him OP |

I love my dog so much that I can imagine how you feel. Quoting: Sloane :sweetdog: Yeah. She was pretty much my entire world. There's a 50 pound hole in my heart that used to be filled with her. How old is your dog? Tashi is a rescue and 2 and a half years old now. He had been so abused and almost didn't pull through. I've had him for two years. He came to me during a very tough time, a blessing. We are both very happy now :) :Tashi3: |

Our 11-year-old St. Bernard is suffering from Laryngeal Paralysis meaning the nerves in her throat are slowly shutting down and heat and excitement causes her stress and exasperates the condition thus in summer we kept her cool and her stress level down always. With age came Nuclear Sclerosis meaning she is going blind and age related arthritis, which we have effectively managed since she was 7 years old but of course, she is weakening with age. Our gentle St. Bernard has been the solid rock that our Anatolian Shepherd Dog has looked up to since being a puppy and her kind gentle nature smoothed the rough edges on our flock guardian dog. Our cats love her, now more than ever they clean her face and ears, and snuggle beside her instead of on top of her as they did in the old gal’s younger years and all will miss her. :St. Bernard: :Gracie and Binky: :Portico: |
