Lost my 8 yo Terrier last night to cancer. Pet Lovers: share your stories!

I had 2 golden retrievers that got sick in 2000, i still dream of them frolicking in the fields.

Lost my 12 yr old three years ago to cancer.

My 11 year old Golden "Buddy" died on my lap while we sat on his favorite couch, the comfort of his tennis ball nearby. We sat that way for about 5 hours, he was alert up until about the last hour. I'm an alcoholic, been sober for several years, Buddy got me through that. Paddled out on a surfboard earlier that day and caught some waves, thought I would never be able to experience that joy again, it was so far away, in years and strength. My pal Buddy went that night, would like to think he stayed around until he knew I would be alright. Glad I got to look him in the eye and say thanks, After I told him he was free to go it didn't take much longer.

My dog is about ready to go. He has a massive tumor on his tummy. Vet said there wasn't anything he could do.

It didn't seem to bother him too much but, since yesterday he seems as if he may be hurting. I think I need to take him to the vet. He has been with me for 12 years, maybe another day or two. This, I am dreading!

My shepherd is 14 years old.

What a sweet sweet baby, I am so sorry that you are having to experience this pain . It is amazing the love we share with our fury companions. I too am going thru this heart wrenching grief , my home caught fire while I was at work n the house can be replace my sweet babies could not . But I like to think that some day I will see them again . And how blessed I am to be able to share such a love with my animals . You both will be in my prayers

My beloved dog was hit extremely suddenly by cancer. Wednesday, the day before Thanksgiving, she seemed healthy, happy, and perfectly normal. Her first seizure of her life happened Thanksgiving night and the second one on Friday morning. The vet took blood and ran several tests, suspecting Addison's disease or insulinoma (cancer of the pancreas).

We were told to give her many small meals to keep her blood sugar up, and Monday she was scheduled for an ultrasound to see if there were tumors. She had several small ones on the outer areas of her pancreas that were likely operable, but she had a massive inoperable one in the middle of her pancreas.

Yesterday, Tuesday, we received the results of her Insulin RIA test confirming the insulinoma. Last night she went into heavy seizures, one after another for 45+ minutes and we were forced to put her to sleep.

Between her first seizure and her last breath, we had 5 days. We thought we'd have more time, but God called her back to him for some higher purpose.

She will be greatly missed and I hope God is enjoying her wonderful bright soul - it shone so bright she lit up every room she was in.

I love terriers. There's just something about their whiskered faces that I just can't resist. Ginger was at least, in part, terrier. The rest of her was a Heinz 57. Lol

I don't even know what to say to make the pain go away. I will say that I believe their spirits surround us and I do believe we will see them again some day!

I really couldn't handle reading much of your thread. You see, I am home one hour from being at the vet myself. We put down our dog tonight - he had been sick with immune problems for a while, but was fighting. Pneumonia hit him fast and hard and he was suffering.

I loved the dog, but he was really my husbands boy. I feel so bad for my husband...

Give your hubby my love. Tell him he's not alone.

Our dog really was more my dog. She always stayed with me. She went everywhere with me. She laid at my feet. She was in whatever room I was in. I adored her.

I will miss the expression on his face when we say 'wanna go for a ride?' and how excited he would get when his papa would pull in the driveway after work, and the click of his toenails on the floor and and... So much more.

But yeah. There's nothing quite like that doggie "smile". One of those can light up a room.

im so sorry for your loss OP, what a cool thing to make a tribute thread. i wish your heart a speedy healing. We know very litte here in this eartly state, but you will someday be with your pups again IMO.
