Re: Alaskan and Canadian posters….
They don't go square only the bottom is frozen flat hence the clunking sound as the tires go down the street and it doesn't happen till -30F range.

It was a hell of a lot colder than that…i've seen -40 here(lower 48) and there isn't any comparison. Do radials do it, too? This was before radials…

Re: Alaskan and Canadian posters….
FYI....you lose 1 PSI of pressure for every 10 degrees drop in temperature.
...which would also contribute to flat spots on the tires.

At -25 the rubber tires are not going to be very pliable anyway which would make the flat spots stay in place longer.

As for bias ply....as far as I know they are only used on some trailers at this point.
They suck for any kind of handling.

You can tell i'm in a warmer climate now….
So radials at a sustained -30 will clunk down the road before they warm up?

Re: Alaskan and Canadian posters….
From my experience, and I have a lot of cold weather experience, it starts at -35c. If the tires were warm when parked on a concrete surface it is worse than if you just came from a short jaunt. Yes my tires are radial.

Sucks driving to work freezing your ass off with a little peep hole to see the road as you bump along on your square tires.

I'll be doing this tomorrow morning, oh yea.

We always parked in a garage for the most part, but that time really sticks out in my mind because it was so horribly bitter cold….clear as a bell…one of those nights. I remember the car had points, and you really hoped it started…

Let's not forget fuel lines freezing up as you're driving down the road…that's always a hoot!

Damn.....-55 without a garage and plugging the thing in to keep the oil warm....good luck getting it started.

Water in the gas must be a horrible thing too.

I was way on up in Canada one time and it got to like 80f(guessing) and everyone thought they were going to stroke out. One guy was walking along with a gas can all drenched in sweat, so I stopped and gave him a ride….poor guy!

No joke, I used to carry a hibachi in my trunk. After working a long day with no where to plug in,the car would freeze up. I'd fire up the hibachi slide it under the oil pan and voila the car would start.
