Quoting: Anonymous Coward 50348551 Yes you will be healthier, look younger and live longer...but is that what you really want? All that matters is that you're eating legitimate produce, meat, fish or veg. Of course you will get sick from consuming processed meat or gmo veg. Wake up, they're corralling you. Organic vegetables aren't available to everyone in an affordable manner. So have some soy |

They have this weird belief that anything from the sea is a vegetable and not meat. Which is why people who would normally eat $2.98 a pound hamburger will switch to $12.98 salmon, because it's lenten Friday, and they are supposed to be depriving themselves. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 35399677 United States 12/11/2013 01:48 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No changing your diet to vegan or vegetarian will not have a significant impact on how long you live - unless you eat predominately meats, fats and sugars than eating anything healthy will improve your chances at a longer life depending on your current age. Understand you cannot undo your dietary habits - what is eaten is eaten and the damage is done. Thus if you are 40 and are suddenly worried about heart disease, stroke and the like - sorry too late, you already set your body on a course for destruction. A change in diet may by you a couple three years before that stroke or heart attack, but it is going to happen. Vegan diets are difficult to manage and most vegans do significant to moderate amounts of damage to their body denying themselves all sorts of animal protein. The best diet is one that has a (one) small serving of meat on your supper plate. 2/3 of your plate should be fruit and veg, the remaining 1/3rd is split between grains and meat. This is as close to the way humans evolved. Like it or not animals pack better protein that is easier for humans to take up then proteins from vegetable matter, like soy protein. Fish, chicken are good meats for protein. Eggs are an excellent source of protein, cheese and yogurt are also good sources of protein. The typical western diet is to heavy in meat. A chicken thigh is about all the meat you need per day to meet your daily protein needs. Unless you are a laborer, or are building muscles then you definitely need more protein. A fish diet with loads of fruit and vegetables will meet most of your dietary needs each day. Understand its impossible to eat all of your daily vitamins and minerals - no human can do that the volume of food is too much. So supplement with a one a day type vitamin. Will this increase your life - most likely know - however it is possible if your genetic line is predisposed to heat disease, stroke, diabetes - it is possible that changing to a healthy diet will reduce the risks of these issues, or put them off longer thus buy you a couple three years. Further understand that longevity is a red herring. Number of years is meaningless if those extra years you are stuck in a bed, wheel chair bound or on life support. In this your diet can have a significant impact, by reducing your risks of spending more time bed-bound, or sickly. thus your quality of life is improved which is actually far more important than quantity. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 51201603 United Kingdom 12/12/2013 04:59 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | if you eat too much, you will get fat, and die young your stomach DOESN'T CARE in what form you take calories in, as long as you take calories in you can eat just below your daily maintenance calorie allowance all in animal fat, and you won't get fat, you'll actually LOSE weight. your body will simply use the fat for energy, and take the rest from your fat stores, then your muscles. we all have a daily MAINTENANCE level of calories, which you can work out by multiplying your body weight in pounds by 12. stay under that, day after day, and you will NATURALLY lose the flab. of course, eating JUST animal fat isn't the best way to go about things, a balanced diet is, but saying vegan only makes you live longer is complete horseshit what kills people is being too fat, and too fucking lazy, then they think they'll solve all their problems by munching on only celery and lettuce for a few weeks diet, and light to moderate weights exercises. it is NOT rocket science. |
