My garlic and lemon juice hair treatment experience.
If you have a story of how you transitioned off of shampoo, I'd like to hear about it. I'll share mine to start off, this may be of use to those folks who wonder about shampoo and/or hair loss.

I'm 36, and every male in my family is bald. I have had the most hair for the longest time, but in the past year, the scalp got brighter every day and I had a lot of hair loss on a daily basis. I could see it on the wall of the the shower, the little tumbleweeds that form when the water starts backing up... It was depressing, but I accepted it as part of life.

Well, as it turns out, in my ongoing research into awakening-conscious food, etc, I came across garlic. As a dietary/medicinal item, garlic has a very long and revered history of uses, among them, hair loss. I believe it to be because of the high sulfur content, but that is a whole other branch of discussion altogether. I eventually got a bug up my ass to try the natural approach. What else had I to lose? I have a plain high-RPM juicer at home, the kind I use for beets and carrots. I would periodically peel enough garlic (a LOT) to make what I called 'hair food'. It was always garlic juice but I would occasionally add ginger and/or onion juice and cut it with either hemp, olive oil and most recently, aloe vera juice.

I know what you're thinking. Smell. Not a problem. I work in a call center, and not one person, not one, ever smelled garlic on me. The secret, is in the rinse. The trick is to rinse your hair with lemon juice. Concentrated lemon juice has a definite "tingle", some might say burn, so use it carefully. Also, I would only treat my scalp in targeted spots. I would wet and part my hair, then use the little plastic brush that comes with any 'man-scaping' shaver kit. By carefully dabbing the hair food I had less to deal with in the smell department. I would also take advantage of weekends and days off work to have what I would call, cryptically, 'garlic days'.

I'm loathe to take on things that require a lot of cleanup, or things with a lot of steps and measurements. I like simplicity, and I believe that holistic treatment is all about simplicity. I don't measure out anything. I don't believe it should be necessary.

So, did it work? I believe it did. Within a few weeks of the garlic treatments, the amount of hair I was losing plummeted. I also lost ALL flakes and any kind of dandruff. In fact, I could swear that my scalp actually got a little pinker. I don't know how much it did for my thinning hair, but it definitely did dramatically reduce the amount of hair I was losing, and I can see this just by what I track in the shower drain.

I still do lemon rinses 2-3 times a week. I have not used shampoo in over 3 months. I don't have any issues with grease/oil and my hair looks really, really nice. It smells good and feels really soft. I'd be curious to know if anyone else rinses with lemon juice, do you have to dilute it? Lemon juice has bite to it.

Anyways, sorry to keep rambling, but I was eager to share as much as possible.

Indians used to rub garlic on thinning hair spots as a top remedy it has to do with obstructed pores and circulation, I had some thinning at the front so I did and it's growing back to real thick now

Thank you. I just want to point out that I, at no point, set out to find a hair remedy. I have been researching a whole list of foods that are supposed to have links to various other phenomena like chakras, auras, the pineal gland, etc.

I've researched things like cilantro, chlorella, tamarind, etc. I just happened to be learning about garlic, and this just happened to be a convenient digression in my exploration.

Like I pointed out elsewhere, I am not a fan of diets, plans, steps and regimens. I'm like an alley cat. I learn enough to move to the next step, just eager to reach the conclusion, whatever it may be. I honed in on what might be the cause of the hair issue, as I learned more about sulfur in the body, but I also learned about microbes on the scalp.

I should also point out that along with the hair feed I was ingesting stupid amounts of garlic, fresh garlic. Of topic was the chemical compound allicin, and its many potential uses in the body. In short, this was my Great Garlic Experiment, with me as the primary guinea pig. :)

If anyone wants to add any experiences, would enjoy keeping the conversation going. I ran across the blog of a family that I guess, lives on a garlic farm, or that they just farm garlic. She compares her use of garlic to the dad on My Big Fat Greek Wedding's use of Windex for a cure-all. She was kind of my inspiration to take 'garlic days' - days on which I would consume and rub as much garlic on my body as possible. :)

Anything that burns is good for regrowing hair. Cayenne pepper is good as well. A lot of the acids that people use for chemical peels on their skin to stop wrinkles works very well, I like glycolic acid a lot, people have had amazing results with that.

Why is this so, not sure. I think it probably has to do something with hair being covered with dead skin or something, and you need that acid or pepper or garlic or something that burns to clear up that dead skin so the hair can breath again. Just a guess.

The down side is the acidity which will dry the fk out of the hair you have, turning it to pine straw.

Re: My garlic and lemon juice hair treatment experience.
I was looking for something to use on my beard. I like the smell of my shampoo and conditioner but not in my face 24 hours a day. A lot of places online recommended a mix of apple cider vinegar and water for a conditioner. Mix it with some baking soda to almost a paste consistency for a shampoo. I didn't try it but a lot of people resorted positive results.

I started using macadamia but oil to Moisturize my beard. Within two days I could tell a huge difference. Much softer and could shape it with once over with my brush. I run a little through my hair. It gives a lot of shine and helps keep everything where I want it without looking like it has anything in it. Plus it's still soft like hair instead of crunch like gel or fiber.

I would say rinse immediately, maybe let sit for 30 seconds. I use baking soda and water, then vinegar to condition. Never tried garlic. But for baking soda just rub the water/soda mix into ur scalp for a minute then rinse. Then for the vinegar, just run it through your hair, try not to let it touch your scalp tho. So if u have short hair, dont bother with the vinegar .

I shower at least once every two days, usually daily tho and only have to use my baking soda and vinegar like once a week. My hair just doesn't get greasy anymore, all it needs is a rinse. The soda/vinegar makes my hair really soft and healthy looking tho :)

Let what sit?

The garlic I would rub into my scalp then wrap my head in a do-rag and go to sleep.

The lemon juice I pour a bit at a time onto my scalp, then brush it in using a hairbrush. Then I let it sit for a few minutes, until the sting has started to subside, like I mentioned, lemon juice is very potent.

At this point, there are two chief dangers: lemon juice is greasy/oily, which is alwayts a bad thing to have in the shower. Furthermore, it stings, bad if it gets into your eyes. I'm sitting there with lemon water streaming into my eyes and standing in lemon-y water. Provided you mitigate these two steps, the lemon juice should rinse completely out of your hair and not leave any stickiness. If it's sticky, shove your head back under the shower and rinse some more. :)

Re: My garlic and lemon juice hair treatment experience.
I've been taking garlic pills, a vitamin B mix called Hair max that I got from a natural food store and using coconut oil on spots and some gets in internally because I use it as a lotion.
I have heard that eating coconut oil will work, but haven't gotten up the stomach to ingest it yet. Something is working though as I have new growth. Oh, I'm also using Biotin drops directly on the spots.
I'm open for suggestions!
