Old Soul?? Walk In?? Holy Crap! **Update** Page 2
As many of you all know, I'm a huge fan of Opera. I fell in love with Maria Callas' angelic voice when I was little. She was born in 1923 and passed away in 1977.

Here is Maria singing "Ava Maria". You don't have to listen to the whole thing, but you need to hear a bit of it for a comparison.

[link to www.youtube.com]

Now. Listen to this little girl sing "O Mio Babbino Caro". Amira Willighagen is from Nijmegen, The Netherlands and is nine years old.

[link to www.youtube.com]

Uitstekend! I'm just...

The child's demeanor is more mature and humble than most adults I know. I don't know where her knowledge of singing comes from, but she didn't get it from a professional who has trained their voice for years and years. Everything about this child is magical. Old soul? Walk in? I mean. What the heck? How does a voice like that come out of a child that small? She has skill that takes most opera singers years to master.

I can post the full version of the little girl's performance w/English subtitles if anyone is interested. Wow.

I saw this video a few weeks ago, and posted it on my Facebook page with the comment that she was an "old soul". I think young children with extraordinary talents like this are experiencing a past life "bleed through" of some sort.

What a talent that girl has!hf

To the member who grumbled at me about this being posted weeks ago, I did a search and didn't find anything. I have never had good luck with using this site's search engine no matter what keywords I type in. Even if it had been posted before, it was the first I'd seen or heard of it and my topic is about the possibility of this child, and others like her who are extremely gifted at such a young age, being old souls or walk ins. If you have an opinion, please post, otherwise I'll have to assume that you have a tiny life for needing to point out the petty.

Would love to hear her perform that song without the stupid audience and "judges" ruining it by applauding every time she hits a high note. God, that was annoying.

Yes. That totally annoyed me as well. I've just now started to do some research on the young lady and since she is so new to the scene there aren't many recordings of her. Here's one where she's singing the same song for a charity benefit live on Dutch TV.

All I know is that to have muscle control like that takes knowledge and practice and instruction. She has the knowledge, but the other two are lacking. This is what has me dumbfounded. Where the hell did she get the knowledge without the instruction?

I would also like to post the entire video of the Holland's Got Talent so you can hear what is being said. She just decided on Queen's Day of this year to sing opera. blink

The English translation isn't the greatest, but you'll get the gist. She has everyone else asking the same "Old Soul?" question.

Yeah... I can see that would be pun worthy. Good catch.

Actually, the surname "Latz" is the German short form of the Hungarian surname László which means "One who commands glory" and Tallen is a variant of the name 'Tallyn' which comes from the Olde French word "Taillant" which means "Cutting Edge" and was a nickname given to swordsmen in the medieval times.

No. It's not unnatural.
I am a 39 yr old woman.
As a child...I could draw, paint, dance, write fiction, create music, sing. Just as well, if not, better than most adults. I've won numerous art awards...literary awards (published in SUNY periodical at age 12, numerous award winning short stories)...my music has been used (commercials, online). I guess I was odd as a child, as my talents took sooooo much of my time. My parents didn't influence me...at all.
I still do all of those things...as well as any other PAID artist.

See...my brain is wired differently. I have so much creative talent and intelligence, I was studied. How could I write a symphony, just as complex as Mozart, yet, I didn't understand the concept of simple subtraction?
How could I write a work of fiction as perfect as The Odyssey in a day...yet I didn't grasp rights and lefts.
I had a lot of social mis-steps.It can be a lonely childhood...being stuck inside one's head full of creative ideas...it's a jail.
Having talents are great...when others are bored.
It hasn't helped me one damn bit in living a successful life.

If I LOVED it...I was good at it.But...it's gotten me...
NOWHERE.
Leonardo Da Vinci was a tortured man.
I see a lot of myself in this young girl.
I'm quite sure that she can do a lot of things...better than most people. But, then what?
I'm great at a lot of things that I HATE TO DO!
Like, cooking, for example. Why must every meal I make for someone end in "you must give me the recipe" or "you must cook for us!" when all I was trying to do was feed some-damn-body.I just wanted to eat a damn hot-dog...but somehow, I made the most perfect hot dog on the planet and now the whole damn planet wants a hot dog.

Everyone wants me to write them a song...everyone wants me to draw them a pic...everyone wants me to design their:
homes
cars
tattoos
Jeans
Jewelry
gardens
weddings

Not ONE person feels that I should need any kind of compensation for these efforts, however...that I should be thankful and SHARE my talents with the world.

People will suck the life out of you if you're "talented" enough.
They will steal your ideas, music, art, written works and claim them as theirs.

This child definitely has a talent...it is in fact INTELLIGENCE...she can find the essence of what she needs to learn on her own accord.
Her voice will be just one of her many attributes.
I'm sure if she wanted to tap dance...she could pull it out of her butt if she watched it enough.
She is a CHAMELEON...very rare, very underrated people.

Oh dear me. Forgive my muggle use of the word unnatural to describe this. I meant uncommon in a supernatural way.

I am so very sorry that you have not been appreciated for your gifts. Are you still in NY State? Have you thought of moving elsewhere where no one knows you and just starting over as an artist? I'm sure you've already thought of that :/

Is there *anything* I can do to help? I mean it :) I might be overstepping my bounds, but did your parents, by any chance, use your talents for their own bragging rights? That can always lead to gifted children being ostracized by other kids and it probably laid the groundwork for your being used as a party trick rather than being taken seriously for the gifts you have.

I'm serious. I would like to help, if I can.

Like, cooking, for example. Why must every meal I make for someone end in "you must give me the recipe" or "you must cook for us!" when all I was trying to do was feed some-damn-body.I just wanted to eat a damn hot-dog...but somehow, I made the most perfect hot dog on the planet and now the whole damn planet wants a hot dog.

amira's rendition of o mio babbino caro is my favorite i have heard (and i have heard a lot). interesting too that amira is an anagram of maria.

i am partial to sissel's version of ave maria though...

Wow. That's gorgeous. Thanks for that, WooWoo :)

Interestingly, Amira means "Princess" in Arabic/Hebrew

I see nothing appealing about opera, just sounds like fat chicks trying to make their screams into a song.

She has clear voice much better to listen too than Jackie Evancho, another child prodigy opera singer.
 Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51678646

Yeah. I wasn't too impressed with her demeanor. She's a bit of a brat. Not at all humble. She's also been taking voice lessons since a very early age whereas Amira just "decided" to sing an operatic song after hearing one sung at the Queen's Day festival.
