I don't know, but I got rear-ended yesterday taking my kids to school. It was a nightmare. Idiot going like 40 on a street where traffic was (and always is) backed up for a block or more just slammed right into us after plowing through a light.

We're all okay, except for some neck pain, but seriously what the hell??

People are idiots.

My 10 year old son is like traumatized for life now - he can't believe someone would just drive into us. It was insane. And here they couldn't even blame the weather, they were just in a hurry to get to work/school.

Merry fucking Christmas, right?

I know; sometimes I can't believe what I'm seeing-the big thing around here are all the Dominican race car drivers weaving in, out, and around all other traffic on the road. Especially near the industrial park where I work, you have to take your life in your hands with the people rushing to work, etc. In the past week or so, I've almost been run off the road twice because of tractor trailer drivers changing lanes without looking first. Insane.

Haha I was going to mention something about Russian but I didn't want to offend anyone... Never had the chance to confirm but I read once that they don't test over there, you just buy your license?


And, just to say, not every Russian driver is bad....

I'm not a mother yet but I know that when you're in an accident with your children like that most women go into full on combat mode, total Tiger Mom shit. When I was a tot my mom was slammed into by a car, thankfully on the other side of the backseat from where I was.. Immediately after seeing I was okay she went over to the man driving the other car and started screaming in his face.

Yeah it's the highway is a giant pinball machine for people or something. Unless there's a dire emergency like birth or death no one should be driving like that, but even then not advised.

idk i havent been to russia, but they sure do drive crazy

I remember when I first started driving, my cousin's husband gave me the best advice there is. He told me to always watch out for the other guy. This has saved my ass countless times. Of course quick reflexes also help.

However this won't keep you safe from idiots who are curious about how their car's engine would look inside of your trunk. People really need to slow down. Everyone who drives a vehicle is basically steering a 3,000+ pound death machine and should treat it as such.

Be glad you don't live in Utah. Running stop signs is common practice here.

I always said this. People take it for granted. Me, I get out of my vehicle, wipe my brow and thank God I didn't die in that thing today.

As to the OP. Yes, people drive like assholes. It is especially prevalent this time of year. I think getting in a vehicle accident is a shitty Christmas gift to your family, but hey, people seem to avoid me like the plague cuz I'm a little crazy. Being naturally repellant really helps when your out on the roads. With the exception of my family and a few close friends I live in a peopleless bubble and don't mind it so much.

But, in all seriousness, your cousin's husband speaks the truth. Everyone should follow this rationality while driving... If only people in this world realized that every time they get behind the wheel sober OR drunk that they're going to be held accountable for the safety of others and themselves, the world would be a better place. It's like these people don't want to take responsibility for their own actions and don't give what they were doing any real conscious thought.. How ironic is it also that so many of these fatal DUI accidents end with the driver miraculously surviving? I guess that should be good enough punishment.

Yes, it seems like a good majority of the very graphic fatal accidents I've seen on many of those gore sites are coming from Brazil. Indonesia has some pretty nasty scenes as well.

Obviously no land is free from these brutal accidents, thinking now of Paul Walker's accident and how all the pics/vids went viral.. But why does it seem that so many are from a few of these countries, is it because the videos/pictures are leaked easier somehow?

just like I said, if you got the money, you got the license. you can even take your driving tests in a multitude of languages, even though all our signs and stuff are in english!

Ha, when people "roll" through stop signs or treat them more like a yield around my parts we call it a California stop. Wonder the origins of that name.

Well I come from the opposite direction.......we got an inch of snow and you would think we got a FOOT! People driving 10-20 mph on country roads....with trail of 50 cars behind them, crawling along at a ridiculously slow pace!!!!

Yes, that is ridiculous when *that* slow, but I'm wondering, is your area prone to less fatal accidents statistically or what?

I would have to say the statistics of fatal accidents in my area is extremely low.

someone posted this on another thread the other day and I was dumbfounded by these idiots in the video.

ooooooh don't get me started on this, I have so many crazy driver stories. here in south florida, it's a risk every time you have to go to the store. you can't go to the corner without going through an obstacle course of construction, drivers with their heads up their ass, or maniacs that think they are the only ones that need to be anywhere. and throw in touristy places like miami beach where tourists and rollerbladers just jump from in between cars just to take a picture, while you have to slam on your breaks so you don't run their stupid ass over and you have a very pissed eekers any time she needs to go anywhere. seriously, getting on the highway here = risking your life.

oh, and let's not forget the clever drivers the blink right and go left, or leave their blinker on for 2 miles and then do something totally different, that's if they bother to turn on their blinkers at all.

Have to find it in a bit, but something similar happened near me and it had me baffled as to how they ended up stacked like they were.. If only there was video of it in action..

Sweetheart, I live in a town where so many people drive and do not even speak English, much less read it. So... many traffic accidents.

I always pray before leaving the house and drive defensely, but mostly pray. Heh.

Okay. Here's a story to go along with the topic:

Was driving down a major city highway after work, oh only about 2 in the afternoon. Was stopped at a red light waiting for it to turn green, cars in front of me stopped. Am sitting there just waiting, got my coffee in the console, etc., just waiting.

All of a sudden I get impacted from a vehicle in the rear. From the sense of the impact, he was traveling about 35 MPH or so. He's about 30ish. Didn't ask if I'm okay.

There was a car behind him, unmarked cop car, who the 'defendant driver' seemed to know. Detective told me he would call the cop to make a report.

Cop came - diddled around - found some excuse not to make report. Asked if I was ok and I said no, so he called some other agency to come and do his work.

So we're all (girl driver in front of me that my car hit) and defendant driver and me. Defendant driver tells me how he is a hard worker and has a good job, blah, blah, blah - still hasn't asked if I'm okay.

In the interim, he calls his entire family who are latinos. They all stand there and speak in Spanish - must've been 8 of 'em there. I just went to my car and turned on a/c as it was about 90 or so degrees.

When the cop gets there finally, the defendant driver lies to the cop, tells him that I was not stopped but was moving in traffic and that the light was green. I promptly corrected the story and gave the facts. I had hot coffee spilled all over me, drenched my cell phone and busted open gallon jugs of water in my car also.

The defendant driver was ticketed and I had serious damage to my car and to myself.

Lying liar. I don't care if he works hard or not. I was taught that is what we are supposed to do. Also, a bit of remorse and the truth would have probably helped him out.

Know what I think: I think he was texting when he didn't stop for the light.
