Your grandparents and my grandparents used Horehound. I still use it and so does my family. Absolute best for all chest problems and coughs. Mom uses it sometimes for asthma. It may not keep up with pneumonia though....I've never had it.

You can buy Horehound cough drops at Walmart. It's an herb of the Mint family.
