Anonymous Coward User ID: 51915510 Canada 12/24/2013 12:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Youre Canadian AND s glper, you should be ready for this kind of shit. Quoting: Anonymous Coward 51915510 No excuses. I grew up north of Op in Peterborough and having the power out for a week this time of year is really dangerous. Being that is the case OP is why I quoted the above AC. You should be so prepared that at this point that the worst effected, elderly and people w/ very young children have also been made secure through your action. You know your neighbors. Get out there OP - single mom using her own body heat for her baby, elderly person alone, no family/friends just sitting there drifting off and freezing to death. It's Christmas eve 'tard get out and start knocking on your neighbors doors even if they are OK. It could provide a sense of community also another person who does have their shit together may join. Get a couple of more sing carols and knock on doors!! My uncle used to live in Pickering and as an old man if he was going through this and his neighbors did nothing not even check on him I would be LIVID. I live in the States now and would expect to have to check on my uncle my self I don't have the piece of mind here that I would up there regarding emergencies. Your a Canadian God Damn IT Act like one, get out there!! And Merry Christmas to ya eh, have an Ex. for me. He gets it. |

So it sounds like the outlying areas... The problem is not really downtown? Sound right to you OP? Haven´t been to Toronto for many years, so I don´t remember if the power lines are overhead or underground. |

Walmart, McDonalds and Tim Hortons have been the big winner of this mess, Well at least the ones that are able to open. Some Major intersections no Traffic lights. Some people aren't making it a 4 way stop. Should be Traffic Cops directing traffic, but i guess this is there way of saying they need more $$$ in their budget to hire more cops. Alot of the roads up until yesterday had a thick sheet of ice along them. At night/morning around my area, East Scarborough / Pickering it's complete Darkness. Our little pocket has power but others around us don't. We lost power for about 24hrs and it turned back on yesterday at 2:30am. Stay Safe everyone. |

My folks North of Pickering are still out of power and water since Friday evening. They are sticking around and keeping the wood stove going for fear of their pipes breaking. They got word that they may have power by tomorrow. Relatives in Scarborough have received no word when they will have power and it doesn't look like any time soon. So many damaged lines and trees all over roof tops, roads, ect. I hope you are able to stay at a place that is warm, with people you care about. Nice avatar pic btw. Try and have a Merry Christmas, |

Haven´t been to Toronto for many years, so I don´t remember if the power lines are overhead or underground. There are parts of the down town core that are with out power. Some of the transportation has power now, but a lot of the surrounding neighbourhoods are with out power still. I wouldn't say it was as bad as the ice storm that happened to Quebec about 10 years ago, but it really sucks. My parents can't get their place any warmer than 7 degrees Celcius. |

Sounds tough for your parents. At least they have a little wood stove for warmth though. It´s tough, but they should be OK. I think I remember all overhead lines downtown? Yes/No? That would be weird. If so, it might be time for them to start burying them, especially in the more populated areas. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 11996258 United States 12/24/2013 01:49 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | From the article: "While it’s up to Ford to call an emergency, Deputy Mayor Norm Kelly would take over after the declaration. City council recently transferred that power to Kelly from Ford in the wake of the mayor’s crack cocaine scandal." So the city council took away his power to manage the city after an emergency declaration... but left him as the only authority to declare an emergency... Dafuq!? |

That's right hydro is fed to the house overhead in the majority of Scarborough. |

Ya it's unfortunate situation, our premiere (governor to my American friends) won't even speak to rob ford. And it's not big enough to declare state of emergency only affecting the city in the north and east ends. |

Big problem going on there... Good point. It´s a little late, but better late than never.... Shut off your mains. Thanks we shut off the water to the house and emptied the pipes. |
