Natural remedies for the flu?

I guess this is a bit self-serving, seeing as how there have been confirmed H1N1 deaths in my area, but I thought maybe we could have a database of remedies for reference we could all access. I'm being cautious and staying in/away from people or crowded places but I do get sick easily so I'm trying to be prepared.

I've read that Vitamin D, Colloidal Silver and Oregano Oil have been known to work. What else is recommended and proven effective against the flu and its symptoms, or to avoid getting sick?

My 5 yr old son (who also gets sick easily) just had a throat infection, tested neg for the flu but has yet to regain his appetite 100% and his cough lingered for a bit. I'd appreciate any tips for little ones as well.
