I'll bite I love a good discussion... Quoting: Philomath Intended out of life is to be able to live it the way I want. My life my rules as long as it doesn't harm others. Why we are here... I have many thoughts on this... I don't know the truth... Is this a simulation... Are we engineered by ET's or do we need to grow spiritually? Maybe a combo? We live in a multiverse with many other realms (dimensions) and ET's exist. Awesome, so you believe in free will, but only if you do not cause others harm? The simulation idea has always been a neat one. Some philosophy classes I have taken have spent a lot of time and gone into the subject with great detail. ET engineering or "Intelligent Design" is also a great topic, I for one believe in intelligent design but not like christians and many other theologies do. Also, the idea that we are here to grow spiritually I think is for some, but not all. I think we do not all have the same reason, purpose, etc for being here and now. But yes, I do believe in quantum physics, some of the theory of everything etc. There are many dimensions and universes and some universes have many different dimensions. That's what keeps me awake at night.Imagining other dimensions, spatial and alternate. And I think of the 'Heat death of the universe' theory. Everything just dies.Whole galaxies, the universe.Everything and everyone on every planet, everything they created gone. Makes me sad and probably the most unselfish feeling I've ever had. I understand exactly what you are saying and have spent much time pondering, reading, researching, etc. I do not know, no one does, But I believe that the energy transfer between all of them will never end, especially since i do not believe time exists in certain ones(dimensions and universes) but that all are linked somehow. Not all to us, but still linked none the less. And I will come back to this, I love this, but I'll get to a couple more posters quick. |

Quoting: Patrick Bateman Or, 3. what are your ideas of life and this and other dimensions, universes, etc? 1. Get and give is the cycle. 2. "Why" is a metaphysical question that I cannot answer. The truest, most divine things need not be said. 3. Is there is distinction between life and non-life? Life is a higher-complexity than what men consider non-life, but in the end, it is all the same, only a different form and subsequent function. What is the definition of "dimension"? That will go a long way towards answering any questions. Same with "universe". 1) ok 2) I disagree, maybe not said, but to some, not all, shown or guided. 3)of course there is a distinction between life and non life, imo at least here in this plane in this universe. Now speaking as a cellular biologist, all life on this planet is made up of carbon. But that just may be semantics. jmo And yes, being able to properly define dimensions and universes will ultimately help us to understand them. It can be difficult at times to get your thoughts out there when the discourse to express them has yet to be invented. Re #2, there is a difference between knowing the divine and having the ability to accurately capture its essence in words which are both binding and static. Exactly, and I do not believe our human brains can come close to doing either one. We can get glimpses perhaps, but not even close to understanding one or the other really at all. I just do not think that our minds can from a biological and physiological pov. Which sucks, but we can still search. IMO |

Then one fine morning I woke up & my first thought was....I know nothing....back to square one....or alternatively I am ok with not knowing....it no longer matters that I don't have all the answers, & I am at peace with it. Lol, I have been through your cycle, but not on as grand of a scale it seems. If anyone has anytime, the essay by Camus, "The Myth of Sisyphus", is about life and death and the irony of it all, some of the cycles we have touched on, suicide, etc, It is only like a 100 pages and can be found for free online in audio or to read, but it is the most mind provoking read I have ever come across. I will not give up the ending, and what he comes to after evaluating what we are discussing and all of the evidence, but it is very interesting. And thanks, I hope more posters keep coming and exchanging ideas and thoughts with one another as well! :) |

It sounds like you have quite a bit figured out, and imo, every single thing on earth, this dimension, etc is relative on a singular basis to one another. So in other words, everything is relative, but to you. But just my thoughts. And good luck to you and your son! That is awesome! I plan to stay in academia off and on my entire life. I just finished my first degree, Pre-Med/ Cellular biology, and I need 1 more class in chem for a minor and one more in philo for a minor which i think I will get both of those soon. I like how you said it does not scratch the surface. In one of Einstein's think tanks he asked everyone how much they thought humans as a race no or understand about the universe, and the number they cam up with was 2%. While he said the bible is full of children's stories, etc, and most of us from being here at least know how it is full of plagiarism's, but he did comment that he believed not in god like most do, but that a higher power was out there in that 98% some where. Btw, I too in the last year started dabbling in programming, etc. It is a lo of stuff, esp in the beginning, to get by before it gets really fun, but I hope you and I both eventually get to it! |

What I mean about everything with the phisiology and make up of our mind, is just that we do not physically possess the parts, or make up or w/e to perfectly grasp all of these topics with a correct and final answer. And not only that, but as we as a species progress and this field becomes more developed, the discourse will exist that does not currently, and will allow us to explain and understand things and each other much more clearly. |

My mind becomes super active when I go to bed at night. That's my most creative thinking time. I traverse the universe seeking answers & understandings, but go round & round in circles, eventually landing at a place that states, our human minds can not cope with the vastness of it all. When I push myself to go beyond my limits, I feel like I touch the borders of insanity. Perhaps this is due to some of our dna being switched off??? Also, perhaps due to the nature of this "playground" we are not meant to know the deeper answers. Still, this does not stop me from pondering & contemplating.....because it's just fun to do it. |
