Again, not really. Most career fireman don't have to risk anything. The vast majority of cities with fire departments have fire chiefs that make up policies that reduce their risks of injuries. Such policies as in "Let it burn" policies (Google it, it's getting very popular, you'd be surprised that your town or city may have such a policy). They are just as bad as teach unions. Most of it due to insurance or the legal crap with cities. My town had such lazy firefighters that we had to hijack their fire trucks to put out a house fire because every firefighter that was supposed to be there were not there. Most of them don't even live in our town, they act like career politicians than firefighters. We voted in to pay taxes for our own fire department and we ended up having a corrupt union of fire fighters who demand more for doing nothing. Hopefully next election we're going to completely get rid of them. We've already forced an ordinance through that to hire new fire fighters, they have to live in the town. What's surprising, my story isn't so different in other places. |

It is the previous owners who skipped town knowing this was a disaster ready to happen. The previous owners are VERY much responsible and neglectful. I hadn't heard that. Your brother leaving was smart, probably the one who sucked it up butter cup and did his job correctly as expected. Also if you choose to be a fire-man teach your family to accept you one day might not come home, or just quit. I told my entire family if i got cooked i did not want a funeral i even told the chief that i wanted none of that fluffy bullshit and he looked at me as if i was crazy. most people are too weak minded to accept a glorious death fighting a fire, and most families are to filled with cowardice to properly praise someone who might die in that fire. |

If people didn't know me they would never know that I'm a fireman, other than this screen name that i made on a whim xx years ago. Most people that have their cars covered with stickers, sirens, lights..etc are volunteers. They LOVE everything about the fire service. So much so that they do it for free! I'm a college grad that never had any intentions of being a fireman. I just happened to do well on a civil service test that my mom picked up for me 20 years ago while I was in college.i'm really thankful that she did because it's worked out for the best for me and my daughter. I always made fun of the type you're describing lol. I guess we need those types, and I certainly wish I loved the job as much as they do. I'm simply "thankful" for it. Another thing that has always, I guess "puzzled" me is.... Why do so many of them have those damn ugly ass mustaches?? Well, thanks for being honest. You have to admit that the lengths some of these guys go to is pretty damn silly. Every day I see some guy in a pickup with lights on the top and a four foot wide sticker in his back window reminding everyone within 100 yds that he is a, FIREFIGHTER! Oh, he also has a front plate with some axes and stuff on it that says in bold letters, FIREFIGHTER! I'm worried, honestly, that he might be psychopathic. Oh well. |

User ID: 51681086 United States 01/14/2014 01:40 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Mr. Fireman, I have some questions that you may or may not be able to answer. If you can, or have any thoughts on it, your information would be appreciated. This link states some pretty scary things about this chemical: [link to www.chemicalbook.com] Highly flammable. Insoluble in water. Special Hazards of Combustion Products: Vapor may travel considerable distance to a source of ignition and flashback containing explosion may occur during fire conditions. Forms explosive mixtures in air. R11:Highly Flammable. R38:Irritating to the skin. R51/53:Toxic to aquatic organisms, may cause long-term adverse effects in the aquatic environment . R65:Harmful: May cause lung damage if swallowed. R67:Vapors may cause drowsiness and dizziness. ------------------------- On another site, I read the chemical binds to clay. It is also said to not dissolve in water. If they can't get some clay to bind it to, is it just going to stay in the water, contaminating it everywhere it goes and killing aquatic wildlife? Both vapors and the liquid sound highly flammable. It's alleged to be a chemical used in fracking. Is that what causes some people to be able to "light up" their drinking water in fracking areas? Doesn't this also create a firefighting hazard? What if you pull water from a contaminated place to use on fighting a fire? Seems it could explode. This is the materials data sheet in PDF: [link to www.cpchem.com] According to the sheet, it may be fatal if swallowed and enters airways. Most information about the chemical lists hazards as unknown. This one lists many health and environmental dangers. Why the discrepancy? Since the effects seem to be long term, are the efforts to remove, control, confine it based on a long term effort, or are they just hoping the problem will drift away? The sheets also stress the importance of protective gear for anyone dealing with it. Since you're likely to come in contact with it through your daily job, have you been issued protective gear and instructions how to use it around this chemical? Thank you for any information or opinion you might have. |
