A mother accused of shoplifting attacked a Family Dollar store clerk Wednesday night in Holly Hill and also had her daughter help her beat the woman, police said.
The incident occurred around 7 p.m. at the Family Dollar at 1549 North Nova Road.
According to Holly Hill police, a shopper, who had two girls -- ages 1 and 7 -- walked into the store, placing items in her shopping cart. The clerk said she saw the woman take a sale sign out of her purse and place it on a toy, which she tried to purchase with other items.
The clerk told the woman the toy wasn't on sale, the woman said she didn't want it and left the store with the other unpaid items, police said.
The clerk followed the woman to her car and tried to get a license plate number, but the woman told her older daughter to stand in front of the tag, police said.
The clerk called 911 from the store, and the woman went back inside and started punching her in the face with a closed fist, police said. She then ordered the 7-year-old to help her, and the child began beating the clerk, police said.
As the family left, the mother tried to run over the clerk twice, police said.
