I just took a picture of the moon from here in the foothills of NC ... 1:09am, looking East-SouthEast.

Yes, the "top" is missing, but that is just part of the phases it goes through. Nothing to worry about. Honest.

My cellphone is only a 2megapixel camera, so it's not a sharp pic.

Okay, now this IS strange!! But the phases of the Moon follow a pattern every 28 days. Check this out. Get an old farmers almanac and it will show you what to expect as far as the moon goes. Lots more interesting than worrying about how it looks.
