Natural Gas May Reach $5 Soon - DOOM on...

A guy I work with paid over $5 a gallon today in NY. And his minimum was 100 gallons.

You are absolutely correct there is no shortage what so ever, there is an over abundance!! BUt with winter upon us they want to maximize their earnings! Im so fucking sick of it. Just like the gasoline shortages of the 70's and eighties!! There was no gas shortage, its all about manipulation!!!!!!!! They are even selling our reserve shit to foreign nations for christ sakes!!!!!!!

Just remember, they are drilling the hell out of deep water, and all the NEW TLP's that are coming online is staggering. WE are so far away from any slowing it is ridiculous. They have the wells choked back to a trickle so they can keep the numbers high. In the past 3 months I have wasted 3 million dollars just so they could get us the same or a bigger budget this year. It's obscene really. By the way ex 798 here. Still working pipeline but much closer to the source. There will be plenty work in the coming years.

Just talked to my dad who owned his own natural gas company. It's coming, gas is going up cause of the cold and shortages across the country. Hummm, and shortages of propane?

Busted pipes would prolly stop gas delivered to power stations. No gas and no lights.

Suddenly solar is the cheapest power source available.

I just watched the local Sioux Falls SD news at 10:00 and one of their headline stories said propane has gone up $2 per gallon in the last week. I use propane, but don't know what the current price is because I am locked into a contract at a $1.37 per gallon.

A jump of $2 is going to put the hurt on a lot of people if true. I checked the weekly price and it said the national average is $2.84 per gallon, but that could be a few days or even a week old.

are some of you dummies confusing natural gas with gasoline again?

Yup. "Demand Pricing" has very little to do with the cost of the gas, and everything to do with the value of the pipeline capacity to get it to you.

It's the same pricing model as airline tickets... they cost a hell of a lot more when everyone wants to fly (Thanksgiving, Christmas, etc) than on a "normal" week.

With coal that would never be a factor, because coal is easily stored. A typical coal-fired electric generation station in 1980 had 3 to 13 weeks worth of coal onsite. It was delivered by rail, and the larger the delivery, the lower the unit costs, so they bought it by the train-loads when it was most advantageous to do so.

I honestly believe that the attacks on coal are specifically targeting the 'reserve capacity' that having coal on-site at factories and generators provides. In other words, the ability to run even if they were told to shut down - there isn't much upstream control authority built into the coal model. Natural Gas is another story... shut down the pipelines and you have shut everyone down.

Shut it down during a winter storm, and they will get some quick population reduction...

For home heating oil???
