Anonymous Coward User ID: 27302210 United States 01/24/2014 08:19 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | Just got topped off a few days ago. $320 for 90 gals/Lbs used in the 24 days in between deliveries (however they figure on bill) and I kept heat on 56 while I was on vacation for two weeks. The driver said no more top offs, but will get some so the system doesn't run dry as that is an explosion hazard. So I pay rent on a house, that while I can deal with the extreme cold, that pipes may freeze and crack costing more money. Yay for me. Time for a new place. $300/month for 850 sq. ft. heating |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 50176897 United States 01/24/2014 01:47 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | The farmers used record amounts of propane this year to dry there corn from a unusual wet summer. The industry should have expected this but thats normal. Propane is used in rural areas and mobile home parks and farms. Propane should only be used as a secondary heating source in emergency situations where heat can be used without power, or as a supplement to your main heating unit. The other option is a fuel oil furnace which when the weather gets in the single digits or lower you have to use Kerosene if the tank is not in a basement. Now we come to the insurance industry. Most companies will not insure you if you have wood burning heat, a fuel oil tank in the basement or supplemental sources such as kerosene heaters ect. If you have a bank mortgage you have to have insurance so who wins the insurance companies which are owned by the banks. Most use electric space heaters and that just puts a bigger burden on the power grid. This unusual cold event is taxing our power grid to the max. Most normal winters the northern states are only affected by the long duration cold events. Zthis year the south is getting hammered also. High demand for electricity which normally the southern power grids would supplement the north. The west coast has a severe drought above normal temps as most of the country freezes with below normal temps. Is it normal anymore when it involves the weather? |
