300 billion gallons is about 950,000 acre feet of water.

CA has about 26M acres of farmland.

So, that means you could cover all of CA's farmand with 1/2" of water.

In other words, it's a day's worth of water.

The average California home uses 360 gallons of water a day. You have got to be kidding me! 360 gallons a day? In some areas, such as Sacramento, the average per person rate is 261 gallons! No wonder you are running low on water out there. WTH???

The article below shows where the water is being used in California. Now, I think if you start doing the math, you will find that if you took every drop of the 300 billion gallons of water (while killing the environment it feeds), you would only prolong the farming issue by a short while. The issue is conservation and lack of rain. If you don't get rain (a lot of rain) the farmers are going under anyway.

All you greedy Californians just don't know how to do without and you don't care what and who you hurt to get what you want, either. You need to be a little less worried about the farming and a little more worried about where your next glass of Kool Aid is coming from.

What most are not questioning is, WHY IS IT SO DRY and not raining in cali..

Look up Climate engineering over the pacific with SRM, or solar radiation management.

Either they haven't realized that managing the solar out put over the ocean to prevent bullshit human caused global warming is back firing and causing the worst drought of all time in cali, (blocked sunshine less heat on water, less moisture coming off the coast of the pacific, less rain,...

or this is part of the global climate shift that will be happening as we enter another mini ice age that will span for 50 years or so...

the latter is fact and regardless of the SRM the climate shift will happen and food will be reduced as the entire planets climate patterns shift to a less energetic upper atmosphere and magnetosphere which is has dwindled with as the sun has gone quite.

No, sweetie.

Agriculture causes food to grow.

Growing plants need water. Hence water usage.

Much of that water is not "consumed". It comes to your table nicely packaged in vegetables and fruit. It does not go away, you eat it.

well, a lot of it goes to your lawns and flushing toilets.

and yes, agriculture uses more water than most industries. and there is a ton of waste. and yes, agriculture is the leading cause of desertification.

Even so, this water they are bitching about would last CA's farmers ONE DAY.

Water will be the go-to control mechanism of the future. You can survive without a lot, but not water.

That said, I don't know what the end game is here. They can't possibly be this stupid...can they?

I don't know what's going on with the weather - or why it has been behaving as strangely as it has been in many areas of the world. It's not just California that has been off the normal routine. I find government involvement in this type of thing much more intrusive than legislation aimed at trying to save certain aspects of the environment. I go along with that. I don't go along with climate engineering.

Isn't that kind of like stating that digging for oil does no harm to the environment and only helps by allowing cars to run?

Agriculture causes huge amounts of evaporation. Haven't you ever seen the systems shooting water up into the air and then a bunch of it's gone. That water which is being pumped out of the aquifers isn't being replenished quickly enough through ground seepage to be sustainable. Reservoirs were made to help alleviate that issue, but the growing populations and increased agriculture combined with a drought is also causing these to dry up. You must conserve. If you don't, it won't just be the farmers - entire cities will run out of water.

And remember, you don't get to use all the water which comes through your part of California, either. Cities and states downstream always have a claim on this water as well.

Again politics aside, Cailfornians are in for water rationing, the sooner you get your heads arond thas painful it will be given the gallons per household current useage. But it's certainly up to everyone to decide how to use their voice/opinion. I'm in Arizona and we're right there also.

Plus there is almost no water... just watch the video. It's not the Dems or the republicans... the corporate farmers at are fault... fucktard, look things up before you speak.

I hate it when the redneck stereotypes post false information because their baby-like emotions kick in and start re-posting nonsense they find on the internet -without- doing any fact checking. Usually because they don't know what fact checking is. Here is a tip: Fact check is not when you get more than once force for a story. It's when you analysis the information and see where the source is and see if the source has anything other than testimony to back them up.
I hate stupid people.

1.) It is not the worst drought in California History. We don't know all of California's history because we haven't been here for all of California's history. Geologists claim it's been pretty fucked up in the past. Also, according to the World Health Org, the worst known drought in the past 10 years (only) was last year.

2.) The fish is part of the ecological system and is the most important life form for maintain what little ecological state Cali has left. If the fish goes, then their effect on the environment goes, and they're extremely beneficial to it. How? Well, it's not a one word response, so your baby mind wouldn't be able to understand it... you know, like evolution (scientific fact backed by genetic research and fossils).

Dear Universe, wipe the world of people that don't read text books and understand science. No more red necks, no more mentally ill. Thank you,

Get away from big agro-farms that depend on centrally controlled infrastructure.

Create small, permaculture farms and food sources that can exist without govt "help".

Dig wells. You can dig a well yourself. Do alittle simple research. harvest rainwater and run off when you can, shade, vetiver grass, learn to collect dew and moisture from the air. You will be surprised how much you can get.

No, it isn't like saying that at all.

I have yet to hear any really good solutions for growing the amount of food that Americans consume without water.

Small farms can certainly provide food, but on a limited scale, certainly not enough to feed cities. Farms are as large as they are because it requires that much acreage to produce the amount of food required.

Instead of blaming the farmers who actually produce something of value, why not blame the gluttonous cities which consume yet produce little. How many gallons per day does the average person in Los Angeles, Cincinnati, Atlanta consume? Why aren't you over hammering on them?

By the way, that water squirting out is called irrigation, it waters the crops from above. Like rain.

Curious,

What do you farm? As a Californian, it seems to me that most of the water headed to the central valley is going to grow Almonds and Vineyards, neither of which are particularly critical to ANYONE.

Most of the "farmers" are huge agribusinesses. And most these will convert their farmlands into housing developments as soon as they can secure more water.

In order to support these "millions" of jobs, you want to destroy the California Delta, sucking out water and destroying the larvae of smelt, bass, salmon and a myriad of other species all dependent on fresh water flowing through the California Delta.

California's water politics has always been a dirty game,
just watch the movie Chinatown. For a modern day version
just Google Stewart Resnick and Diane Feinstein.

We are in the middle of the worst drought in our history, and dems are keeping 300 billion gallons of water from farmers to help protect a little 3 inch long fish in the Delta.

This is insane.

You can care about the environment and wildlife without being an evil loon. Choosing the life of a few fish over the lively hoods of millions of hardworking people.
