The "Prince of Persia" in the Book of Daniel: Guardian Angel or Arch-Demon?
"And behold a hand touched me, and lifted me up upon my knees, and upon the joints of my hands.

And he said to me: Daniel, thou man of desires understand the words that I speak to thee, and stand upright: for I am sent now to thee. And when he had said this word to me, I stood trembling.

And he said to me: Fear not, Daniel: for from the first day that thou didst set they heart to understand, to afflict thyself in the sight of thy God, thy words have been heard: and I am come for thy words.

But the prince of the kingdom of the Persians resisted me one and twenty days: and behold Michael, one of the chief princes, came to help me, and I remained there by the king of the Persians.

But I am come to teach thee what things shall befall thy people in the latter days, for as yet the vision is for days..." - Daniel 10:10-14

It would seem at first glance that this "prince of the persians" is an arch-demon that Gabriel and Michael were doing spiritual battle with. Many biblical commentators are of this opinion.

But I ran across an interesting statement in Rev. George Leo Haydock's (1774–1849) Douay-Rheims biblical commentary that would suggest otherwise. Rev. Haydock wrote:

"VER. 13. The prince, &c That is, the angel guardian of Persia: who, according to his office, seeking the spiritual good of the Persians, was desirous that many of the Jews should remain among them. (Challoner) --- St. Jerome, &c. explain it of the angel guardian. (Worthington) --- Each country has an archangel over it, as individuals have an angel. Others assert that this was an evil angel; for how could a good one oppose so long the will of God? Yet this argument may be retorted, as evil spirits themselves must comply. It seems, therefore, that Cyrus was exhorted by the good angels to invade the Chaldeans, and thus to liberate God's people. He was afraid of the hazardous attempt, and free-will may resist the inspirations of God. --- One, or "prince." (Calmet) --- Michael, and the guardian of Daniel, joined their prayers for the liberation of the Jews, ver. 20. (Worthington)"

there are 70 nations + Israel.

all nations have an angel lord, Israel has Michael.

when nations war on earth, the angel lords war in heaven.
when angel lords war in heaven, it manifests on earth.

so apperantly in the end days its Israel with Michael vs iran and its angel lord.

Persia was a world power, Prince is the same prince that controls the world system, Satan.

Correct, Satan is the Prince of the World.

But there is a hierarchy among the angels with some having responsibility for individual persons, some concerned with Cities, others with Nations, and one the Prince of this World.

(starting at 4:58)

Satan is on top but he delegates power to other "princes."

We know on the authority of Scripture that there are nine orders (or choirs) of angels: Angels, Archangels, Virtues, Powers, Principalities, Dominions, Thrones, Cherubim and Seraphim.

St. Thomas Aquinas imagined Satan as a fallen Cherub.

St. Michael the Archangel is believed to be a Seraph. The Eastern Rite and many others place him over all the angels, as Prince of the Seraphim. He is described as the "chief of princes" and as the leader of the forces of heaven in their triumph over Satan and his followers.

Regarding the spiritual warfare that exists between the good angels and the demons, Father Jose Fortea writes:

"Now war arose in heaven, Michael and his angels fighting against the dragon; and the dragon and his angels fought, but they were defeated and there was no longer any place for them in heaven. And the great dragon was thrown down, that ancient serpent, who is called the Devil and Satan, the deceiver of the whole world—he was thrown down to the earth, and his angels were thrown down with him (Rv 12:7-9).

How can purely spiritual beings fight among themselves? What weapons do they use? Angels are spirits, so their battles must be purely intellectual. The only weapons that they can use are intellectual arguments. The angels gave reasons to the rebels for why they should return to obedience to God. The rebel angels countered with their reasons to support their position and spread their rebellion among the faithful angels. In this epic angelic battle, some who were inclined to rebel returned to obedience, while some of the faithful angels were seduced by the evil arguments of the rebels..."
