A fast-food worker I have recently spoken with has sight yet little background in studies of matters. Still has the sight, the synchronicity, and the neuron-synapses to process what is right in front of the face. "They cannot see what's-up if They are looking down." (TastyThoughts) "Something is smelly! Something is smelly, like an old barnacle encrusted shoe washing ashore in the middle of summer." (TastyThoughts) "Yes happy Earth day. Now go tell the wicked to stop damaging the Human Species therefore/and the Earth; For, they are discombobulating the entire Universe and upsetting the Most High God." (TastyThoughts) |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 52902034 Ireland 02/04/2014 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | I think you should think as you please but there are reasons some older people have to do it. If you consider all the possibilities, you might not think as bad of them. Its not cruel but better to have all facts so your opinion is an informed one. They could be homeless and not want to tell you. Or am I a sucker for assuming there are reasons for everything? |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 12637538 United States 02/04/2014 06:25 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | If you were making just $1.85/hour, you must have went through that experience quite a long time ago. Most likely before all the jobs in America got shipped overseas. Nobody looks at minimum wage or fast food work as a lifetime career. People work there because they can't find work anywhere else. Having had RECENT experience in the field of food service, 100% of the other workers I had conversed with were ALWAYS looking for a higher paying job. My co-workers weren't just high school kids either. They ranged from high school kids, college graduates, and even a single parent. If you think that a college graduate who worked through four years of studies or a single mom trying to support her family isn't looking for higher paid work then McDonald's, then you are the only person who is 100% out of touch with the world as it exists today. While somewhat aggravating, it's also really funny when people who lived through America's most prosperous years for the middle class want to criticize minimum wage workers looking for work after the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression. But no, you're right, it's all those lazy fast food workers that are out of touch or losers. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 41255538 United States 02/04/2014 06:29 PM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | ANY job that can be taught and mastered in a few hours SHOULD be low-paying. It's supply and demand. If you hold out for $15/hr to say "Please drive up" into a microphone, or assemble a burger to be thrown into a microwave, there will be 10 16-year-olds who will be thrilled to take that position for $7.25/hr. All work is honorable, but the fact is, a McJob is not designed to feed a family. If you ARE talented, hard-working, and ambitious, you get raises and promotions. I bet all those regional managers who were promoted up through the years from the deep fryer earn a tad more than $7.25/hr (and more than $15/hr, too). When you see some 50 year old idiot complaining that he makes minimum wage at a McJob, it's not the fault of the economy, it's his laziness, bad work ethics, and poor life choices. |

I started at $3.35/hr at a restaurant when I was in college and in 5 years was getting $11.50/hr. I left and got into the field of my major. I learned what a good work ethic was and some business basics that help me to this day. That was awhile back, but the concept holds true to this day. People get raises and promotions. They move on to better jobs. No one goes to Burger King and is enslaved there at minimum wage forever. |

I see some that can't handle "the pressure" of flipping burgers...and then I see some & I think to myself "he's gonna own this joint in a year or two". It all up to the individual & what he wants to make of his own life. |

Wrong. Fast food workers are the people at places like McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, and the like. They are not tipped employees. And even at restaurants where waiters and waitresses DO serve food, they earn money above and beyond their tips... in some states, the same minimum wage that the people on the grill earn. In most cases, tipped employees are the highest earning employees at their respective businesses. But NO ONE works for tips at a McJob. |
