Is it cruel to think fast food workers are either out of touch or are losers??
Honestly I don't know a soul who looks at or could justify calling fast food work a "lifetime position"

Flipping burgers is for high school kids (if you can get them out of the house)or temporary/in between work till I find a REAL JOB

This is how I look at this and why I believe people crying about not making enough money can go to hell.

I had a family of 4 and the only job I could find at a crazy point in my life was at Wendy's. I couldn't whine because I was only making 1.85 and hour. NO, it motivated the hell out of me to make damn sure I keep looking for a real job

I don't think you can complain about not making enough money at a go no place job.

Life sure as hell isn't always fair or right.

But PLEASE do not publicly complain about it. Grow up and face the truth about where you work!!
Lets go Brandon!!

Generalization may cause one to overlook the rare gem.
A fast-food worker I have recently spoken with has sight yet little background in studies of matters.

Still has the sight, the synchronicity, and the neuron-synapses to process what is right in front of the face.

Because the workers resent their own job, restaurants are a very unsafe place to order food to eat.
And it almost seems like the workers resent you, the customer, and who knows might even mess with your order or get it wrong on purpose. Avoid Avoid Avoid Avoid

I think you should think as you please but there are reasons some older people have to do it. If you consider all the possibilities, you might not think as bad of them.

Its not cruel but better to have all facts so your opinion is an informed one. They could be homeless and not want to tell you.

Or am I a sucker for assuming there are reasons for everything?

If you were making just $1.85/hour, you must have went through that experience quite a long time ago. Most likely before all the jobs in America got shipped overseas.

Nobody looks at minimum wage or fast food work as a lifetime career. People work there because they can't find work anywhere else. Having had RECENT experience in the field of food service, 100% of the other workers I had conversed with were ALWAYS looking for a higher paying job. My co-workers weren't just high school kids either. They ranged from high school kids, college graduates, and even a single parent. If you think that a college graduate who worked through four years of studies or a single mom trying to support her family isn't looking for higher paid work then McDonald's, then you are the only person who is 100% out of touch with the world as it exists today.

While somewhat aggravating, it's also really funny when people who lived through America's most prosperous years for the middle class want to criticize minimum wage workers looking for work after the worst economic conditions since the Great Depression.

But no, you're right, it's all those lazy fast food workers that are out of touch or losers.

ANY job that can be taught and mastered in a few hours SHOULD be low-paying. It's supply and demand. If you hold out for $15/hr to say "Please drive up" into a microphone, or assemble a burger to be thrown into a microwave, there will be 10 16-year-olds who will be thrilled to take that position for $7.25/hr.

All work is honorable, but the fact is, a McJob is not designed to feed a family. If you ARE talented, hard-working, and ambitious, you get raises and promotions. I bet all those regional managers who were promoted up through the years from the deep fryer earn a tad more than $7.25/hr (and more than $15/hr, too).

When you see some 50 year old idiot complaining that he makes minimum wage at a McJob, it's not the fault of the economy, it's his laziness, bad work ethics, and poor life choices.

This is union-think. The belief that if you're hired at $7.25, you stay there forever. Away from the unions, and out in the real world, there's merit pay increases for hard workers.

Whenever I find myself in a fast food restaurant and the cashier fumbles for the right picture on the cash register, I always wait patiently and then encourage them to quit the day they don't have to fumble to find it; it indicates what should be the final moment in a fast food career.

I started at $3.35/hr at a restaurant when I was in college and in 5 years was getting $11.50/hr. I left and got into the field of my major. I learned what a good work ethic was and some business basics that help me to this day. That was awhile back, but the concept holds true to this day. People get raises and promotions. They move on to better jobs. No one goes to Burger King and is enslaved there at minimum wage forever.

does anyone ever consider that some people might be in mundane jobs because of other issues.
for instance they might come from a highly stressful home
environment without a lot of support or downright hostile.
The "mundane" job might be the only stable environment they have.

I think it's "wrong" to put a blanket statement over all "fast food workers".

I see some that can't handle "the pressure" of flipping burgers...and then I see some & I think to myself "he's gonna own this joint in a year or two".

It all up to the individual & what he wants to make of his own life.

do any of you realize that those people only get paid by their tips

the chain corps only pay if there is a difference

all my kids have (and still) work the service industry

many of the same workers eat at the same joints to keep each other a float

why not actually talk to some of them

with no degree (and no student dept, by the way) what else is there

oh, that's right, walmart is a good career move
construction, manufacturing, office work is as much a slow death now as those places

Wrong. Fast food workers are the people at places like McDonalds, Wendys, Burger King, and the like. They are not tipped employees. And even at restaurants where waiters and waitresses DO serve food, they earn money above and beyond their tips... in some states, the same minimum wage that the people on the grill earn. In most cases, tipped employees are the highest earning employees at their respective businesses. But NO ONE works for tips at a McJob.

obviously you have no kids or family trying to survive on their own, keep feeding the fat 28 year old kid in the basement dumbass
