Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53471128 I have to admit, most of this financial/economic info isn't something I know a lot about, but I get the gist of it enough to know we're in trouble. Wanted to ask, and I think it's been mentioned, but is it the popular belief by a lot of you economics-savvy folks that TPTB will drag us into the pit of global war (I mean a shooting war, like WW III) when the economy is finally officially ruined? Thanks and sorry if it's a dumb question. Who knows at this point, but currency wars lead to hot wars, that has been true throughout history. Don't know for sure, but I think war is a likely outcome of this... (OP) User ID: 740874 Puerto Rico 02/14/2014 09:47 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | what does a "RESET" Quoting: Anonymous Coward 26614548 actually mean for the average joe with a mortgage and why avoid the inevitable? is it only to crush the middle class? Anyone with savings or a house is going to get crushed. I don't see why owning a house is a bad thing, even when it loses value, it's more comfortable than a tent or renting next to hordes of idiot scum... or maybe you meant being radically upside down on a mortgage. I have a house too, and it's paid for. Should have just said anyone with a net worth is going to take a beating most likely... I do see another leg down coming in residential real estate, but mainly what I meant was anything that's valued in dollars is likely to be very volatile for awhile. What I can't figure out is what the 2 trillion in excess reserves are for. Are they to help stabilize the center as the banks start to default? Or is it just money on the ledger as a consequence of QE, and that will simply vaporize? Quoting: Anonymous Coward 49086209 I believe the only reason the reserves are this large is to keep the new/printed money out of the economy to keep inflation under control. Once/When the reserves start to circulate inflation is going to really take off. The question is what will be the catalyst to get the banks to start using the reserves. Every financial institution in the world is socking away cash right now, but that means they're not circulating it into the economy through loans. Basel III and Dodd-Frank were made to address a SHTF scenario after all. Question: Why can’t they just shut it down once they’ve corralled everyone into UST? No inflation. A revaluation against PMs and a basket of commodities over the course of a week with bail-ins of course. I know this sounds overly simplistic, but why can’t they do it? Of course if they shut it all down, then the politicians can’t save the day. But my thinking is that the inflationary pain needed for a response and Hegelian solution could spin out of control on them. It seems like quite a trick they’re trying to pull off. |
