US Bank shut off my debit card Valentines Day. Said 3000 compromised

That sucks!! You think with only 3000 people you would have gotten a call, at least an automated call.

Yeah my girlfriend paid. Embarrassing as fuck.

Not one call. The rep said they mailed out new cards and it should be there soon. But if the cards were in fact compromised why were the accounts left open for days when I could use my debit/credit card? Any sort of compromise should shut down the card immediately. Just doesn't make sense that millions of US Bankers weren't affected but only 3000 were without notice.

No shit! My card failed at the hotel today. Maybe this is why? I went to an ATM like an hour before and all was well, I got here and the card wouldn't authorize at all.

Guess I'll be calling them, just hadn't had a chance yet.

Sorry, yes - US Bank. Currently travelling in California. Not sure why GLP isn't showing a flag, but that's where I am anyway.

Yeah no kidding! I couldn't even withdraw any money! I'm freakin broke til I can get to a local branch. I hope they're open tomorrow. I think they close at noon on Saturday. I wonder if that's a scripted response to say "3000 were compromised" rather than saying "Millions were compromised" as to not cause a panic.

Well, my girlfriend's card worked when mine wouldn't and she's with US also. As for tomorrow, try to find a branch inside a grocery store if the local big branches are closed. I can usually find an open one that way, at least until noon.

More concerning to me is that if they send my GF and I new cards, I can't actually get them. I'm like 3 states away from where they will be sent.

Yeah me too bro. They have us by the balls! Cuz who the hell has time to pick up a paycheck and take it to get cashed every other week right? I don't have time to pick up stamps and pay bills with cashier checks either. I was gonna get cash out last night too because of all the bank shutdown chatter but totally forgot. Damn!

Not the fire, but perhaps when employees evacuated they left something out or a computer logged in to where someone could have seen something

Damn good find bro! The rep I spoke with said they'd already mailed out new cards tho which I thought was strange that my card worked while a new one was in the mail and my card had already been compromised. I don't know dude. Seems fishy to me. But this has never happened before so I have nothing to compare it to.

debit cards are kinda dumb to use.

I can't even get through on their phone system this morning, due to "extremely high call volume".

Guess I am going to have to march over to a branch and see what the hell is going on.

Thanks AC! I checked my mail and did in fact receive a new debit card. I stopped at a local branch saturday morning and had it activated. The teller told me there were more than 3000 people affected which I had suspected. I have been able to use my card since. Now I just have to call all by billers and change the number. Irritating, but glad to have account access again!
