Quoting: Anonymous Coward 53223582 and harrison ford saying that they would use this boy to achieve their goal.. i only saw the commercial for it. Ender lives in a futuristic world where tptb own the families and children are born through controlled means. They're only allowed to be born if tptb say so or have a use for them. Basically similar population control measures like China uses. The thing on his neck is a monitoring device so that they can see how Ender does while going through the academy. they explain in all it the movie. And they did such a good job with it that I believe I would have enjoyed it even if I hadn't read the book. Very easy to follow. What I found ironic without spoiling it here...Ender spends his whole life being bullied because he is considered small and weak, yet he ultimately becomes the bully even if unwittingly. I don't think your usual tough-guy crowd will like it but I thought it had some interesting ideas and likeable characters. The ending was especially good and different (yay!). I hate predictable movies. The wife will have to watch it again - per usual she fell asleep halfway through. Last Edited by FlashBuzzkill on 02/15/2014 07:29 AM Gen. John B Gordon and Gen. I enjoyed though I kept thinking this kid is too young and skinny to be kicking anyone's ass. Quoting: FlashBuzzkill My wife loved the book is the reason we rented it. Just take away the antennae and they were a good match for the Greys..even had the large dark eyes. Not sure how your wife could fall asleep on that movie..especially if she read the book! She must have been VERY tired lol Real truth is self evident... |

It kind of conveys why militaries give orders and such that the regular grunt perhaps might not initially understand, but conveys the idea that they are often because they form part of a bigger picture for a winning strategy. |

Apologize for my assumption of you being a troll..I just found the concept of a movie about kids in the military as required reading for Marines a bit unbelievable. I stand corrected. I do think this would be a good book though to teach those things you pointed out. Real truth is self evident... |

It did bother me at the government over-reach, but it told the story through the boys eyes well. I have yet to watch the movie. I haven't gone to a theater in over fifteen years. Don't think I have missed much. |
Anonymous Coward User ID: 36998871 United States 02/15/2014 08:09 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | No, I didn't read the book. I probably will read the sequels though just to finish the story, because I doubt they are gonna make anymore movies. It didn't make much money. On a budget of $110 million, it only made $61,737,191 domestically and $50,494,282 in foreign markets for a worldwide total of $112,231,473. A very slight profit and in the long run, it probably actually lost money for the studio. Oh well.. still a very cool movie. |

April? I love this sort of film, great that it's a good 'un. :) Edge of Tomorrow is another of 'those sorts of films' I'm really looking forward to. |

Anonymous Coward User ID: 48380046 United States 02/15/2014 09:45 AM Report Abusive Post Report Copyright Violation | A great book, I read it many years ago. Suffers from book to movie issues, much background and relationship with family is left out, but the lead actor was Excellent and battle school was great and ending "surprise" was handled perfectly. Cards best books are the Tales Of Alvin Maker series. A 19th century America where the revolution never happened and magic is real and the American Indian story of Tecumsa (and his brother)is paramount. |
