Here Are 30 Brilliant Ways To Use Old Stuff You’re About To Throw Away. #12 Is Pure Genius.
Before you throw anything away, really think about it. For example, if you’ve finished burning a candle that comes in a big glass jar, don’t waste it. Instead, drain out the leftover wax and use it as storage. This is called “upcycling.” Upcycling is “the process of converting waste materials or useless products into new materials or products of better quality or for better environmental value.”

Many of these remind me of my dad, and things I've learned from him about repurposing supposed trash.

Great thread idea!

Well… Duh…… We have always used the glass jars as storage containers. I have always considered it the standard accepted use for them when you consume the wax out of them.

I have never understood why people consider the jars “trash” in the first place. That is why I generally buy a container candle with that in mind. So I buy the type that is in a jar that will be most useful for me after it’s burnt.

And I also re-melt the wax and make more candles with it too.

Haha that is NOT a satire article!

Now I really want an old discarded piano, preferably a white one. Well, any color will do, I can paint it!

Nice post, op, for us crafty people!

those toilet paper holders can be used for starting seeds...
they can be planted right into the ground.

my favorite of them all was the fence with the marbles.
i even went out and bought two bags at dollar tree to do this.
then realized i need him to make the holes.
and it also needs some kind of glue to keep them in.
so i havent done it yet.

My grandma used to keep jelly jars to use as drinking glasses.

How many drinking glasses do you need now, for heaven's sake?

Most of those cheap-looking things cost more than a new original.
That ex-cop who murdered his wife in the backyard sauna could have used some marbles in his fence.

Ok, very cool to look at and say nice things about it.
But I bet 99% will not attempt to copy any of these. Those who do are the ones who do this sort of things anyways and been doing it as a hobby.
A lot of them look cool but are not practical.
Take the bicycle as an example. Here are the problems
Natural human skin shed in bathroom will require constant dusting between the spokes. Anyone who has attempted to clean a bike knows how long it will take
Difficult to clean between the bike and the wall. As I said bathroom require constant cleaning of hair and human skin that looks like dust.
Keep a bike in constant humid condition and within a few weeks every corner of that bike will begin to rust.
As I said, cool to look at but.......

Yeh, but how much to pay for the punch?
I've tried it. Its not rigid enough to use as pick. The end wears off in no time.
They are all shit really. Its the kindda stuff they show you doing to some poor family house in a cheap afternoon show on tv

My dad took the harp (cast iron) out of a piano, painted it white, stuck it in the back yard and planted roses around it.

The site is gorgeous and gets more comments than any outdoor decoration ever.

This is my art form. I am the Queen of upcycling, I am an artist and the basis of everything I create was either rescued from someone elses trash pile or something from my own home that would have been thrown away. People throw away some seriously good shit, a little paint and a little creativity and you have one of a kinds art pieces.

I love finding uses for used objects. I have a garden bed framed in with an old cribs railings, to keep dogs out. I get lots of stuff from when renters leave. Many blankets, I turn these into dog beds and sell at a local trading post(my favorite store).

You always post the most interesting things, Person.

Thanks for that.

One summer I had to stay with an aunt who was tighter than bark on a tree. She used her soap bars until they were down to slivers and would place them in a jar. In time, she amassed enough of the collective soap slivers and formed a new bar of soap.

For some reason, it irritated the hell out of me. I refused to use the recycled/refashioned soap. It was a summer of stink. I stank. I stunk.

I always got a seat and plenty of room on the subway.
