By "sword" the Bible referes to Jesus speaking "His tongue".

According to the audio, Boykin continued: “When he said to his disciples, ‘Now, if you don’t have a sword, sell your cloak and buy one.’ I know, everybody says, well, that was a metaphor. It was not a metaphor!”

“[T]he sword today is the AR-15. If you don’t have one, go get one. You’re supposed to have one; it’s biblical."

But remember this.

MATTHEW 26:52
Then said Jesus unto him, Put up again thy sword into his place: for all they that take the sword shall perish with the sword.
 Quoting: SlaveOfGod

This often bandied about verse was actually spoken by Jesus with the intention of addressing the immediate context in which it was spoken and NOTHING MORE.

He and his followers, some of whom were always armed and he never had a problem with before, were at the moment hopelessly outnumbered. Jesus knew it. He also knew how loyal and passionate they were and that he had to say something to keep them from getting killed.

Thats it.
 Quoting: viraja

Right on! Exactly. Many people try to throw context out the window.

In the court of law today, context is the difference between many years in prison and being exonerated of any wrong doing.

Now that being said, it is wise to have at least one firearm for self defense. Preferable a firearm as it is better than a knife or a melee weapon of some sort. But an AR-15 is not always the best solution. It all depends on the situation.

I suggest AR-15

If you can't justify having an AR-15 in .223, get one in 308/7.62.

1. You can hunt with it and justify the cost to yourself... and your wife.

2. Have an effective long range weapon

Well, I think if Jesus was going to do an upgrade from the sword, he wouldn't stop at the AR-15. He'd probably have some type of photon beam weapon or phaser like Star-Trek.

The world continues to gravely misjudge the majority of believers at their own peril.

Patience and tolerance are not endless qualities that Christians must continue to exhibit in the shadow of oppression and violence simply because the enemies of Christianity think it and believe it.

Re: Former general: Forget the sword; Jesus will return with an AR-15
Sorry guys, but I have met General Boykins and he is a wonderful and very violent military man and general. But he is very wrong on this one. When Jesus returns, He is going to speak the Word, and a huge and gigantic spiritual sword will come out of His mouth, and slay thousands at a time. And there is no human and military weapon that will be needed. And then His mighty angels will be doing the same things. And then those of us who are with Him and His great and p0werful army will be doing the same things. And then the beast and the antichrist and all of their followers will be cut to pieces and taken to heaven, where they will be standing before the Almighty Father Creator God. And then they will be judged and sentenced and thrown into the great lake of fire and brimstone. As their brains and mouths and lungs will be full of fire and brimstone, forever and ever and ever!!

Expectations of many people do not match scripture. When the atheists lay eyes on him their knees will bend, willingly. We have been deceived for so long. Jesus comes to free us.

By the way... it doesn't mean anything that MANY military leaders, many lots of experience are coming out saying that we have been infiltrated by the enemy and they are preparing to strike from the inside.

I'll just ignore that... btw what's the latest fad... squirrel!

That's quite silly of you OP! I believe we should adhere to this scripture, but Jesus needs no physical weapon to defeat the evil ones.

I would validate Him if he had some US Military type training with the M-16/AR-15.

He would have to have had at the least a EXPERT RIFLE medal and spent considerable time at the range and in the "butts"

If he is not trained it IS NOT Jesus...Its a damn Jeebus...

I think owning an AR 15 is antisemitic.

Only God's chosen people should be allowed to own guns.

So we are going to quibble, are we?

Matthew 7:22 Many will say to me in that day, Lord, Lord, have we not prophesied in thy name? and in thy name have cast out devils? and in thy name done many wonderful works?

Matthew 7:23 And then will I profess unto them, I never knew you: depart from me, ye that work iniquity.

Right there......depart from me

Jesus is sending people to HELL.

What you meant to say is that those people failed to obey the King James Bible and so Jesus rightly sent them to HELL for their disobedience.

Does the Bible tell us how many apostles already had swords?
No, it does not tell us.

Luke 22:36 Then said he unto them, But now, he that hath a purse, let him take it, and likewise his scrip: and he that hath no sword, let him sell his garment, and buy one.

How many did NOT have swords already?
It sounds like 2, doesn't it?
