you could say that neither the western oil interests or the arabs trusted each others security for what was to become what they both envisioned, that is, that the arabian oil would be the largest commercial prize in the history of the planet...so at that point(1947-48),we have two soon to become nuclear armed pibulls standing sentry on either side of the arabian peninsula....
