Astral projection is a good place to start. The first task is to separate it from a mere lucid dream, which is what the vast majority of scientists consider the experience of astral projection to be. One way to distinguish it from a lucid dream is to try to acquire some extrasensory knowledge pertaining to the world around us: Have someone write a 12-digit number on a piece of paper and place it out of sight. You could even have a computer/calculator generate a random number while you're not looking. Then astral project and try to determine the number.

Of course you have a 1 and 52 chance at being right if you were to guess but if you can repeat this exercise you know you're not merely 'guessing'....
