Warning to those looking for jobs
I just wanted to give anyone who is looking for work a heads up. I have two jobs currently, one in the Maritime Industry that is a great job, but the pay is awful and one as a bookkeeper for several LLC's that's boring but pays very well. I have been looking for a full time job in the Maritime Industry that pays well as a Martitime/Vessel Coordinator. I fill out applications whenever I have time.

I finally got a response from a big company and spent two hours filling out all of the remaining paperwork. Then I got a phone call from them about an interview. I was very excited but then I realized that the caller was some sort of Middle Eastern. You guys know how much I love Muzz. So, I contacted the main recruiters on Linked In by searching for the company. Turns out it was all B.S.. The sucky part is that they now have all of my info. Except for my SS#. Thank God.

So be careful even if it looks legit. The application even had the name of the company all over it. Nicely done. I am looking forward to their phone call, I have a lot to say. None of it is lady like. So, everyone check and double check before you fill out anything.

I was looking for work a couple of years ago and really had a bad feeling about some aspects of applying for jobs online.

Some jobs have you do all your application through a third party consumer dossier agency, and when you read the fine print, by submitting your job application information through them you consent universally to them collecting any and all information about you with no limits. And it's not the company you are applying to work for, it's some third party corporation.

The worst was one grocery store that wanted me to take a 17 page psychological assessment test with a third party and they wanted my social security number with that. I backed out of there and didn't want to shop at that store any more after that.

Absolutely. These scamming bastards actually advertise these bogus jobs on universal jobmatch, and the government don't even other to check if the company is legit or not. It's like they're saying, 'You must apply for the jobs on our system, they may result in your data being stolen for fraudulent purposes, but tough shit'.

And all the while, more eastern europeans flood in to the country stealing every damn job in sight, and the government turn a blind eye to it all.

I haven't even had a single reply since being out of work since September, even though I have been applying multiple times per day, every day since. As soon as they see my British name on my CV, it is, 'Fuck you and goodbye'.

I sent them the below email in response to their job offer, as I googled the phone number that they called me from and it was in Nigeria.

Hello- Erik. The word is out. Time to come up with something new. It's funny because just recently I was left a small fortune by a long lost relative, who turned out to be a Prince in Nigeria. Turns out, I am Royalty, as such, and in support of my fellow Nigerians, i thought that I would send you the link below, so that you know that your ideas/scams have become well known.

There are. I found it on line. The actual company is located throughout Europe and in Houston. They have given their apologies and told me who to contact directly if I would like to work with them. Sadly, they only had engineer jobs at this time.

Back when I was unemployed and just trying to find even a part time job to help get by, I would apply online for retail jobs in my area. I had to fill out these stupid personality profile assessments, for a fricking minimum wage job.

rant

But employers can get away with this because the economy is so bad, it's an employers market. Back during those horrible Bush years, when employment was 4.5%, they couldn't have pulled this shit!!

I wish someone would explain how Eastern Europeans "steal" jobs......surely it would be harder to find work if language was a problem? - The fact that they can come here and take jobs makes them better I would say.....they have a different work ethic and will do that extra shift whereas the Brits want to have their "weekend" or need some time off.....time to wake up and smell the coffee methinks and instead of moaning about them , maybe take a leaf from their books !!!!

In my experience in Canada, no one asks for that information until you are hired. And I wouldn't give it. Once you are hired, you go and fill in all the paperwork.

as a side note, my son was at Service Canada the other day applying for a replacement SIN number and they told him that are not issuing actual cards after the end of March. You will have a number only, no card.

Many companies nowadays only take resumes via email/internet.

Some of the job posting even say "Do not contact anyone in person about this job offer" or "Only internet submissions will be accepted".

It's easier for the companies and hiring managers. Instead of having to spend 15 minutes speaking to an unqualified applicant, they just throw away the resume/application and move on.
