Warning to those looking for jobs

Well , my ex husband is 50 and still works regular 14 hour days , 9-5 jobs are for women , most British men don't want to work long hours as you stated yourself that 9-5 "chews up" most of your life.....get educated about Eastern Europeans before you start slagging them off , some of them are decent hard working people who are far more family orientated than the Brits......and for the record - I used to work 14 hours Saturday and Sunday , then 10-2 weekdays as I had a mortgage and 2 kids....my husband (now ex) worked 60 hours a week.......all our friends had the same kind of work ethic....so my friend I think you are just plain lazy !

Same goes for so called Training centres, who are often illegal & not even qualified to teach, never alone issue out a pass certificate. I got ripped off by a lorry (truck) driver training company. Others I went for were for electrical & plumbing etc, but they turned out to be fly by night bogus, who seem to have good enough solicitors to keep them from being prosecuted. Only the BBC's Watchdog has had some success stories with dodgy trainers & employers, but is very rare. I'm pissed off that the authorities allow these unqualified criminals to have a licence to train. Terrible.

Three weeks ago I received an official looking letter from a Nigerian petro company. Seems an estranged uncle of ours made some good investments and we're going to be in some money.

Last week, I spoke to a big mucky-muck at the petro company and ironed-out some details. A great guy and he made it all very easy (toughest thing I had to do was give him my bank account number and some personal information - duh, real hard, right?). Within two weeks I should have a nice piece of change.

Some Tips for Applications:

Never give up social security no., but if you are told you MUST, make one of the numbers wrong/inverted...after you've securely LANDED THE POSITION, you can 'correct' that...

ALWAYS demand a 'physical' location of where the 'company headquarters' is based out of, and a telephone number.

Make sure you obtain a CONTACT PERSON'S FIRST & LAST NAME & TITLE who has been with the 'company' for a long time.

Keep in mind YOU are also INTERVIEWING THEM. Even though you can't get as much "personal information" about the people individually, you can gain leverage by doing your homework BEFORE you fill something out...

(If contemplating purchasing something online, when I call that advertised '800' number, they immediately ask for my personal info; however, I ALWAYS tell them I've already got the merchandise and need to talk to CUSTOMER SERVICE...once you get THAT number, you can find out WHERE those folks are operating out of...and obtain a PERMANENT physical address/contact person/CEO/President's name, etc.)

There is NO LAW saying you HAVE to write your name exactly how it's spelled on your B.C. Get creative. Tweek your name. Hyphenate it. Use names that are HARD to trace back to you if you find out people are SCAMMING...Better yet, muslimify the damn thing... : - )

As an employer of lots of people in several countries, I find it absurd that you make these stupid comments.

You Brits made your bed, you lie in it.

In the 90s there was plenty of work going, but you middle-class wankers all considered MENIAL work too beneath you to do.

I know LOTS of businesses who could NOT find local workers to do any physical menial work, including working in bars and restaurants.

So OF COURSE that work is going to go to people who don't mind the work or the pay - ie Polish and other eastern european immigrants.

The same problem has happened here in Australia - the spoilt middle-class generation doesn't want to do actual work - so the work goes to others.

At the bank I worked at, when you posted for a different position, offshore reps reviewed your resume and personal info prior to the hiring manager getting them. I believe most of the HR dept is now offshore. Great, foreigners thousands of miles away have all the personal info of every employee including ssn's.

One screening technique being used by large businesses is doing a credit check. If you got poor credit they don't want you.

A lot of jobs only accept applications online. I think they have all that pre screening in place so they can eliminate people before they ever see a HR person, just based on background checks, pysche evaluations, etc., this reduces their exposure to discrimination lawsuits. If you only ever interacted with a machine, it's hard to accuse the machine of prejudice.
