Mirror and Examiner are tabloid newspapers (similar to National Enquirer)...they tend to sensationalize their articles. It could be a mistranslation, taken out of context, totally made up, or very unlikely: UFO. After the plane disintegrated and pieces fell to the ocean, it's a (very unlikely) possibility that the cellphone was on top a seat that was floating about - aircraft seats float.

BUT...

If a family member knows of a passenger's itunes login and password, they can go to the find my apple device site, log in with the passengers itunes info and it will show a green dot on a google map anywhere in the world where the device is located.

Lots of focus on finding it obviously, lots of media pushed focus on the stolen passports. What is more compelling to me is the 5 people who booked the flight and didn't show. That reeks of "I have inside information and trust me, you should not get on that plane". Should be fairly easy to track those people down and waterboard them no? :)

Yep, my IPhone was stolen at a resort in Mexico and I used someones Iphone and logged on with my ID and password and it gave me the exact location of where my phone was. I even saw the street view of the house, but my phone had to be turned on for it to work.

Strange thing is, a vew days before the plane went missing, Ubisoft came with a new trailer of the upcoming game Watch Dogs. In that trailer they have changed the looks of the main character Aiden Pierce in one that looks very much like Matthew Fox, who played dr. Jack Shephard in the series Lost.

The phone cannot be tracked unless it is on. The ringing is a function of the actual carrier signal.....just because a phone rings a few times before going to voicemail does not mean the phone is actually turned on.

But what if some of these phones are turned on, and the authorities are hiding this fact? With all of the people on board this plane, were ALL of the phones turned off? I don't think so.

Cellphones ring when they're out of service (Or off) all the time. AS someone who tries to call people on the subway once a week or so, I hear it all the time.

Couple of dongs too....and a wood.

If this is the case, isn't there a way to check the cell signal via GPS and see where they are?
