Breaking! Cell Phones from passengers on Malaysia Airlines ringing......!!

One of my phones is off right now, it goes right to voice mail. One of the cell phones of the people on the plane picked up, then was cut off.

I feel so sad for the families, desperate for any glimmer of hope. But :

When you call a cell phone number, and you hear the ring sound, it doesn't mean that the phone is on and ringing.

You've connected to the phone company's system is all it means.

So sorry to say it.

Mine (iPhone - AT&T) goes right to VM if there is no signal or if it is off.....will ring twice if I am already on the phone then will go to VM

our MSM is reporting the 2 guys with the stoles passes was looking like Mario Balotelli ??? WTFF its getting very weird

All this means is the carrier is trying to connect. That's how phones work. It's not like the movies.

no idea what AC is talking about but a phone doesnt ring when its off obviously.

its the same as setting it on airplane modus. no connection means no getting through. so you either get voicemail or as in my case just a message sayinig this phone isnt available at this time (provided by my carrier)

if it was one of my family members i wound have insisted that the phone number be published.

if you hear a phone ringing when you call sombody

that means you are connected and the call has gotten through and that the other phone is ringing.

My sons galaxy 4 goes easily for 2 days and he's texting or listening to music the whole time...

My mom's cheap trac phone stays on for almost a week on standby...

My iPhone lasts quite a bit if it's just on standby but that's rare so don't know how long!

Phones don't ring when off or battery us dead. Phones are auautomatically transfered to the operating answerphone system.

Ok now I have to admit this is getting strange. Has this ever happened? A plane lost for many days without a signal?

The technology is out there for that. Remember the Philidelphia? I'm sure they have perfected that by now.

Phones and services vary overseas too. You have to know how their systems work and eliminate any variables
