Aids cure patented in 1996?

Since becoming a member here, I have encountered some of the most brilliant minds on this planet. (a fair amount of mentally ill minds also reside here, but that keeps it interesting) Please help me figure out why this is not currently being used to cure our infected citizens? Is it more profitable to keep patients on other expensive, less effective treatments? This saddens me greatly. Please feel free to help me wrap my mind around why this has not been anywhere in MSM? This should have been the discovery of the century, not buried from the public.
