"I therefore exhort, first of all, that supplications, prayers, intercessions, offerings of thanks, be made concerning all sorts of men, 2 concerning kings and all those who are in high station; in order that we may go on leading a calm and quiet life with full godly devotion and seriousness. 3 This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all" 1Ti2:1

Jesus knew who all twelve Apostles would be before
He created the universe.
He knew what their hearts would be. He is GOD!

I think to question Jesus selection of the 12 is either
the height of arrogance or stupidity. Not sure which.

BTW, for those who don't know who Jesus is:

WHO IS JESUS?

JOHN 1
1 In the beginning was the Word,
and the Word was with God,
and the Word was God.

2 The same was in the beginning with God.

3 All things were made by him;
and without him was not any thing made
that was made.

4 In him was life;
and the life was the light of men.

5 And the light shineth in darkness;
and the darkness comprehended it not.

6 There was a man sent from God,
whose name was John.

7 The same came for a witness,
to bear witness of the Light,
that all men through him might believe.

8 He was not that Light,
but was sent to bear witness of that Light.

9 That was the true Light,
which lighteth every man that cometh into the world.

10 He was in the world,
and the world was made by him,
and the world knew him not.

11 He came unto his own,
and his own received him not.

12 But as many as received him,
to them gave he power to become the sons of God,
even to them that believe on his name:

13 Which were born, not of blood,
nor of the will of the flesh,
nor of the will of man,
but of God.

14 And the Word was made flesh,
and dwelt among us,

(and we beheld his glory, the glory
as of the only begotten of the Father,)
full of grace and truth.

WHERE IS JESUS NOW?

1 JOHN 5
7 For there are three that bear record in heaven,
the Father,
the Word,
and the Holy Ghost:

and these three are one.

WHAT DOES GOD THE FATHER SAY ABOUT HIS SON?

HEBREWS 1
1 God, who at sundry times and in divers manners
spake in time past unto the fathers by the prophets,

2 Hath in these last days spoken unto us by his Son,
whom he hath appointed heir of all things,
by whom also he made the worlds;

3 Who being the brightness of his glory,
and the express image of his person,
and upholding all things by the word of his power,
when he had by himself purged our sins,
sat down on the right hand of the Majesty on high:

4 Being made so much better than the angels,
as he hath by inheritance obtained a more
excellent name than they.

5 For unto which of the angels said he at any time,
Thou art my Son, this day have I begotten thee?
And again, I will be to him a Father,
and he shall be to me a Son?

6 And again, when he bringeth in the firstbegotten
into the world, he saith,
And let all the angels of God worship him.

7 And of the angels he saith,
Who maketh his angels spirits,
and his ministers a flame of fire.

8 But unto the Son he saith,
Thy throne, O God, is for ever and ever:
a sceptre of righteousness
is the sceptre of thy kingdom.

9 Thou hast loved righteousness,
and hated iniquity; therefore God,
even thy God, hath anointed thee with the oil
of gladness above thy fellows.

10 And, Thou, Lord, in the beginning
hast laid the foundation of the earth;
and the heavens are the works of thine hands:

11 They shall perish; but thou remainest;
and they all shall wax old as doth a garment;

12 And as a vesture shalt thou fold them up,
and they shall be changed: but thou art the same,
and thy years shall not fail.

13 But to which of the angels said he at any time,
Sit on my right hand, until I make thine enemies
thy footstool?

14 Are they not all ministering spirits,
sent forth to minister for them who shall be heirs
of salvation?

Jesus Christ sits right this very minute,
NEXT TO God the Father.
He is glorified in Heaven.
He is God Almighty,
Seek Him before it is eternally too late.

"Consequently Jehovah saw that the badness of man was abundant in the earth and every inclination of the thoughts of his heart was only bad all the time. 6 And Jehovah felt regrets that he had made men in the earth, and he felt hurt at his heart. 7 So Jehovah said: “I am going to wipe men whom I have created off the surface of the ground, from man to domestic animal, to moving animal and to flying creature of the heavens, because I do regret that I have made them.” 8 But Noah found favor in the eyes of Jehovah." You think Jesus knew Paul would "revise and extend"
his movement after Jesus died to include gentiles,
to exclude circumcision, and all the other changes
that Paul implemented after Christ died?

I think free will makes predicting anyone's future choices unpredictable or Jesus wouldn't have picked Judas.

He obviously saw something in Matthew's heart, notice how quickly Matthew responded, he could have said "no"

Maybe you're right I can't find a scripture, tax payers were hated for pinching the people for a little extra and keeping it for themselves but really I just saw it in the movies. Good call.

No, you are right DGN, tax collectors WERE considered sinners, as most were greedy, though whether Matthew was or not is not disclosed, but the point is that Christ read the heart of even sinners.....of which each and every one of us are

Jesus came so that every man could be redeemed. Choosing a tax collector would emphasis this. Did he not change the world completely?

Re: Why did Jesus pick greedy tax collector Mathew to be an apostle, wasn't he supposed to pick the pure in heart?
The issue was directly addressed by Jesus himself to the Pharisees of his day-

"9 As Jesus went on from there, he saw a man named Matthew sitting at the tax collector’s booth. “Follow me,” he told him, and Matthew got up and followed him.

10 While Jesus was having dinner at Matthew’s house, many tax collectors and sinners came and ate with him and his disciples. 11 When the Pharisees saw this, they asked his disciples, “Why does your teacher eat with tax collectors and sinners?”

12 On hearing this, Jesus said, “It is not the healthy who need a doctor, but the sick. 13 But go and learn what this means: ‘I desire mercy, not sacrifice.’ For I have not come to call the righteous, but sinners.”

Which is 100% of us as proven by our devolving from the aging process.
"That is why, just as through one man sin entered into the world and death through sin, and thus death spread to all men because they had all sinned—. 13 For until the Law sin was in the world, but sin is not charged against anyone when there is no law. 14 Nevertheless, death ruled as king from Adam down to Moses, even over those who had not sinned after the likeness of the transgression by Adam, who bears a resemblance to him that was to come." Ro5;12
