I have 500 pounds in sealed plastic bags. The plastic bags are in sealed 33 GL trash cans. Kept cool, dry, dark they will be good for 10 years.

When they go bad I turn them into the garden for fertilizer and feed them to the birds. If TSHTF it can serve as bait to get mice, rats, birds for protein.

If you've ever been TRUELY hungry, you'll eat about anything you can cook. The oats must be cooked and will suck huge but it's better than dying.

Strictly last ditch insurance as I have 2 years of other canned and dry foods, my own well only 30 feet down with a hand pump system if the power goes out and I run out of gas for the generator.

Lard does not have to be refrigerated and it's sold in buckets in Wally Mart. (Makes the best flakey pastries)

I want to focus on non-food items too. Move quickly on.

Just remember that every branch that produces fruit in a year is done forever and must be cut out in the following spring. Every branch that was new last year that didn't give fruit is the branch that will give fruit this year.

You must prune every year. Same with grapes.

People just need to look after themselves, don't risk relying on others. You know that!

May I suggest that for greens that you buy powdered greens from an outfit like VitaCost. I have several of their Magma Greens and other assorted containers of greens.

I do my own canning using Ball jars and a pressure cooker. Buy your chicken or beef now and can it. You can make soups, spagetti sauce, etc. I can quarts full of just chicken, Laura's Lean beef, and BBQ.

Toilet paper and handwipes!

If you can't afford beef or any meat, get peanut butter and top it off with a few quarts of honey.

I give up on prepping. No more $$$ to do so, I am forced to sell my farmette because of lack of income to make mortgage payments, and I don't know if where I am going next if I will be able to bring my hens :(......
